Nurse Externs?

The hospitals that i know of that hire nurse externs are Banner and CHW. Banner will hire externs after you complete the second block of nursing school and the CHW hospitals wire hire after the first block. Hope that helps!:) Oh, and they are both paid externships.

As of january, banner had suspended the extern program....i don't think its started back up.

Banner Thunderbird still hires externs occasionally. I think they are the only ones. CHW does.

I extern at the Va Hospital for Block 3 and 4. They pay better than CHW, but the experience was better at St. Joes, I did thier program in Block 2 then switched for personal reasons. I have some friends who are at St. Joes as externs and love it! Also, JCL as extern program, but I believe they are called "student techs" there are some people in my Block 4 class who work for them. St. Joes only hires twice a year. The Va currently has a freeze. I don't know about JCL. Good luck, if you can get in it really is a great experience and helps alot with school!

I am thinking of relocating to prescott and working for the VA if there are openings. What did you think of thier extern program and would you recommend working there?

Is ok...the extern program is not great atleast not in my experience....I am used as a CNA on the floor - have yet to work along side of RN as promised.....But as an RN I think it would be better....good luck!

Normally, you have to complete at least one block of nursing courses before applying for Externship. CHW still hires externs as far as I know.

Ditto what SnarfGirl said. I think in a lot of cases NE are used as CNA's more often than not. I'm about to find out about that myself.
