It seems as though the hospital is trying to phase out LPN's and replacing them with nurse apprentices. Of course there are the RN's overseeing them. I couldnt believe that a NA makes 15 dollars an hour and I(new lpn grad) make less than 14 an hour. Is this the norm across the country??

So, what exactly is a "nurse apprentice"?????
Sounds like another name for nurse intern.

nurse apprentice's are RN students, they work under a RN and do much more than a CNA .. we have them at my hospital , we don't hire LPN's ... I love our nurse apprentices they are usually egar to learn and want to learn about how to be a RN... dosen't mean they have a RN job after they graduate ,but it helps to have your foot in the door. if your known at the hospital , your more likely to be hired...
ok thanks:)

We don't have nurse apprentice but none of the major hospitals are hiring LPN where I live. They are only hired to work in health clinics. It is true, they are trying to get rid of LPN's. The last hospital that I worked at, they did team nursing and MADE the LPN's pass out meds, wound care, start IV's and anything else under there scope of practice while the RN's did the rest, which was pretty much assessment, IV push, hang blood. As you see, the LPN's did MAJORITY of the work. This caused the LPN's to leave cause not only are they doing all the work, I (as a CNA at the time), was getting paid almost as much as they were. So to answer your question, yes, this is norm where I live. May not be true anywhere else but def. true here

I wish I were a NA b/c as a new grad since May and now licensed, it does not seem that I am going to get a job soon in Atlanta, GA.
