NRSE 4600

Hello to all. I have a question that I wanted to know from anyone else in this class. I have been completing APA papers all year long and this is the first class that the TA is wanting an abstract. She is very picky about my papers critique every little detail. Am I the only one having this and why now are they requiring an abstract. What is the deal with this.

Thanks Ed

Im so glad this class starts soon so we can get it over with. Last class wooohooo!! Im so burnt out

I just received an email regarding the new clinical component but can't read into it on this phone, darn it.

21 hours with a preceptor for the next 5 weeks? Oh for God's sake!!!

Wait - there are clinicals with this program?? I just started this semester, and one huge selling point was the fact that there were no clinicals. If this is true, I may need to rethink this program. :/

That should be interesting for people who work alone, or are supervisors, or work odd shifts.

For God's sake, is right!! Yet another hoop to jump through, the final hoop. Before the details were made available, I was hoping that I would be able to do this at my place of employment, but that won't be possible. It appears that OU is not providing a list of possible preceptors so I guess I am supposed to search and secure one on my own. I've never done that before. Who has the time for this? Do I just go around to facilities and ask nurses if they can be my preceptor? How does that work with their place of employment? What if I can't find anyone who will agree to do this? I have lots of questions. We still need more details about this. For instance, what exactly is the preceptor supposed to be doing with us? In order to try and secure my own preceptor, I need that information. I don't start this class until March so I guess that gives me more time to figure this all out. If anyone is taking this class starting next week, can you please pass along more details about the preceptor expectations and the actual project that we are to be doing?

For God's sake, is right!! Yet another hoop to jump through, the final hoop. Before the details were made available, I was hoping that I would be able to do this at my place of employment with my nursing manager during normal work hours. Well, that is not going to happen as my nurse manager only holds an ADN. There is one nurse practitioner at my work but he isn't friendly and has an obvious disdain for regular nurses. I found the instructions very confusing. Maybe I need to slow down and read them again (and get rid of my headache first lol). I just think giving us a flipping week to find someone is outrageous. They knew for a while that this class was going to require some kind of "project". I was told on more than one occasion that this was not going to really be a big deal. I should have known better than believe that.

Hopefully this is all we have to do and not on top of a bunch of unrelated readings and papers. I may have to postpone this class until March because of this.

I have no idea how in the h*ll they expect those of you starting this class in a week to secure a preceptor that first week. I mean, COME ON! With limited details to boot. Not to mention that most people have work schedules and/or families and may have to scramble to get life coordinated with an addition of 21 preceptor hours. That's an awful lot to ask of people in one week. UGH! DiDiRN, if you postpone this class until March it would be totally understandable. Do you have any other classes left?

I'm confused about them too. The emails were not clear at all as to what the project entails. I take this in march also.

You're right Michelemybell, I read through the email and the all the attachments again, and the info is not very clear. I get that we will be doing some project/paper related to one of the QESN's, but I'm not sure what role the preceptor will be playing in this. Like, what exactly is the preceptor supposed to be doing, don't they need some guidelines? Is it more of a shadowing experience where we follow around a higher educated nurse and use what we learn from that experience to complete our project? I'm just not sure. I would imagine there will be a lot of people asking questions about this and there will have to be more details given.

I start this class on Monday. Will let you know what I find out.

Thanks! So you will be the experimental group and we'll be the first revision group. This sounds stressful. I'm willing to do whatever as the last nursing class to be done!
