NP at ASU or U of A

Published

I wanted to know if ASU is the best college to become an NP. I like psychiatry and also family practice. I am a guy who is 24 and would like to know if also would it be better to go to community college to get the RN and then go to ASU for BSN or go to ASU or U of A directly to get in the nursing program? I have only one class left to take before I am able to get into nursing school at mesa community college. The wait is 3 semesters.

I think that the route you should take depends on your circumstances. If you are able to get get into a BSN program right now, can afford it, etc. then it would make since on a timeline to go that route rather than get your ADN and then go back for your BSN, especially with a 3 semester wait. If you can't then I don't see a problem with going the ADN-BSN-MSN-?

I don't know anything about schools in AZ, but generally I think if it is an accredited state university then the program will be recognized.

I'm in AZ, that is the path I would like to take, MCCD for RN, ASU for BSN, ASU for Psychiatric Mental Health DNP. I can't get straight into ASU because I only have a GED, not HS diploma (I started working full time at 17 working for a fortune 500 company, worked there 10 years)

I don't mind the wait though, because I have a 22 month old, and a new baby due in July, she'll be old enough for day care the same time I'll be starting nursing school.

If you can get into ASU and start sooner for BSN, I would do it. Per credit you'll be paying a lot more than you would if you took ADN at MCCD though.

Good luck,

Amber
