NOTES...how do you take yours?

Published

What is your preferred method of note taking? Do you use a laptop and type, the good ol fashion pencil and paper, or do you record and write later?

I read the book and write down key notes and then type them up. This is how I am studying for my iblce test. Unsure of how I will be taking notes once I'm in school so definitely following :-)

In class I would take notes on my laptop since I'm much faster at typing than I am hand writing things out.

Then I would go home and read through the chapter again and add notes into my laptop that I thought were important.

When I was satisfied, I would go through and manually write my notes into a notebook. I found that hand writing things helped me remember better. I would also take some of my notes from my laptop and put them into flashcard form on cram.com.

This semester I'm going to get a voice recorder and record lectures as well.

I always typed notes from my book and then typed notes in class. My teachers taught way to fast for me to have pencil and paper. And I found that with typing I was able to write down just about everything they said. But then again, I'm also a fast typer

Make sure you're allowed to do that though! I know with many programs you aren't allowed to record in class because HIPAA. Teachers may reveal info about patients they had to make a point for the lecture that they need to stay within the class. Recording it technically violates HIPAA. That's what we were told anyway

I hand wrote everything. Notes from the book, lecture notes, all of it. I can mindlessly type but writing took more concentration so it helped me remember the material better.

I'll ask first, of course! I know we have a few students that are already in the program and they have been recording the lectures so I just planned on getting a recorder just in case!

I guess that I am the minority here. I am still a fan of the old-fashioned pen and paper note taking. I find that muscle memory is important for me to retain information, and if I physically write it down, I am more likely to retain the information.

I am the same way, writing helps me to remember things also. I like the "old fashioned" way!

Nope. I hand wrote everything when I was in school.

Muscle memory when typing works just as well. :)

I typed from my book, then wrote in class; I also taped so I could expound on my notes after class.

I like to write my notes in class, as well as type them up in outline form for studying purposes. I like making PPTs too and uploading them on Google Drive so I can have them on my phone.
