NIHSS Certification Question/Advice

Hi Everyone-

I had an interview for ICU today and the manager told me to go online and get my NIHSS certification but she really didnt say where or how to do this. I have research this on google and many pages come up, some offer to sell DVDs so I am confused. Is this certification still free or is it $10 like she told me?

Which website offers this certification? I really appreciate your help and assistance.

Thanks

It used to be free, but now it's $10 like she said. You can find the "course" on the American Stroke Association website. Hope that helps!

I did mine last year through the American Stroke association. It was free. Speaking of I should be renewing it.

I was looking around the web today to get mine, and saw the free site is what my facility uses, NIHSS - English - NINDS : Home. From what I could gather, AHA or American Heart Assn charges $10, but they do have an iPhone version for testing.

I just completed "NIHSS-English Group A-V3 - 1st Certification". Is this all I need to have my NIHSS certificate? I saw there's Test B, C, etc. as well on the NINDS website but I'm not sure if those tests are necessary at this time. I'm interviewing for a neurosciences stroke unit next week and want to be prepared with the right certifications. Thanks!

In my ER you get the A certification your first year. The second year of employment you get B and so on. Different facilities may require something else though.

Thank you! That was really helpful information!

This has been driving me nuts all of yesterday, as I did my training in November or December I think it was, but I handed the certificate to one of our senior nurses to file in my portfolio & it has disappeared....therefore I have been trying to reprint the certificate, but can't find the site I did my training on!

It's free. I believe it's NIH website NIH Stroke Scale International I got certified about a week ago

I have now registered on here, as unable to find my certification...I guess I'll have to redo it, when I get the time!
