Night shift??

I definately see where you're comeing from. When I was CNA and in school for my LPN, I worked the 11-7 shift. I went to school M- Th from 5- 9:30 pm. and worked every Fri, Sat & Sun nite. This gave me the freedom to choose my nites off during the week. I usually did clinical nites off. They went until 10 pm. Having your weekends free would be great time for you & your kids. I have 3 myself. I'm not a single mom, but I missed ALOT with them while I was in school and then straight to work. (School usually got out by 9:30. No sense in driving 20 miles to home then 23 back to work. ) The decision is almost a no brainer...LOL But you have to do what's right for your family & you. I know sometimes sleeping was hard when my kids were home, but they were all under 10. Not exactly "self entertaining". Even with Grandma there, they were rambunxious sometimes! LOL Good luck on your decision! I know opersonally, I would take it.

I am considering a LTC facility for night shift (ll-7) Mondays - Fridays, no weekends. Pay is much better than at the clinic that I am now working. I am concerned about the night shift. I never worked this shift and am hoping someone can give me some input on the good and bad. I am a single mom with 2 kids in high school. Thanks in advance for your help.

I would do it if you trust your children to stay the night without you and get up/and off to school. I know how some teenagers can be (especially since I am still one, lol) and they may take advantage of you working the night shift.

Your schedule sounds amazing! I would love to have the weekends off. i absolutly love night shift, because I hate to wake up early. lol. I hope everything works out for you! Good luck!

I would take it if I were you. I work night shift and I love it. It's great when you have kids because if they have a program during the day or an appointment, you don't need to try and take off of work to get there. You can be available for those types of things without missing work. I love the slower pace on night shift and the fact that I can spend more quality time with the residents. If your kids are okay with you being gone at night, I would take it. Especially not having to work weekends. I still have to work every other weekend.

Your kids won't notice much of a difference because you'll be working when they sleep and sleeping while they are at school, and still available to them after school. But it's really nice when something comes up during the day and you can be available.

The fact that you'll have weekends off is what sells me. Most times, people work nights and alternate weekends. As mentioned, you have to know your children. If you have faith that they won't sneak boy/girlfriends in the house or have wild parties, then, I say to go for it. You shared that you will have additional money, to boot. I'd at least try it!

I don't know what to say on this one. My mother was a night nurse and being home alone as a teenager gave me freedom to "sneak out" and party. LOL

However, if you trust your children, go for it!!!
