hello everyone,

i will be helping to moderate this forum. this is a great website with alot of very useful information and i encourage everyone to use it.

about me? i am a student nurse with one more year to go (may 2007). i love nursing! i also believe that cna's are a valuable part of the nursing team. i am a cna that currently works in a hospital on a cardiac/renal floor. i've worked LTC before and i've worked as a certified medical assistant, cardiac monitor tech, and a unit clerk. my goal is to eventually become a FNP.

if anyone has any questions, i will answer them to the best of my ability. i prefer to answer on the board because this is a community; however, if someone wants to pm me, please do. i am here to help and to learn. i LOVE this website and look forward to contributing to it throughout my nursing career.

i took a class at the hospital about how to read and interpret rhythm strips. basically, you sit in front of a bunch of monitors and print out all the pt's heart rhythm strips, you measure the different parts of the "wave" (pr, qrs complex, t waves), you chart the rhythm and then watch for any changes. for example, you may see someones heart rate slow down...like to the 30's or lower and you alert the nurse or you may see a pt go into v tach. it's alot of watching!

i don't know about all hospitals, but my manager was the one that asked me if i'd be interested in going to the cardiac monitor class. i'm not one to pass up an opportunity...so i jumped at the chance.
