New Grad

Well just last week, Jan. 11, I passed my boards. I was so excited, I worked so hard for it. But now that I CAN work, I don't know where to start. In nursing school hospital nursing wasn't my favorite. I did well, but just wasn't sure if that's where I wanted to end up. I loved Mental Health and OB. But I live in a very small community. We have a 25 bed hospital, clinic, home-health and hospice, and that's about it. I know I don't have a lot of choices, but I want to make a good one. So is there any advice out there for a New Grad that isn't sure where she should start? Should I just buck up and get the most experience I can from the hospiat? What do you think?

experience is good for a resume . test the waters and find out what is available for you .

you may find the very job that is ideal for you but if you don't then take what you can get for now...important that you get in there while skills are fresh..once you get in you may like or you may be in a position to hear of jobs that you really like...word of mouth is a good way to hear of an opening coming up before it is placed in paper etc

start by trying to get the positions you think youll like.Cant you travel to another community to possibly find what you might like to do?Good luck.

You could go work just about anywhere. I say move if there isn't anything there that intrests you too much.

I am in a simular position. Luckily I have loads of places to choose from though! I got my license last month & have been looking since (well, except for the time I took off for neck surgery). Now I am more heavily looking!

I have also thought about moving to another town or city.

Thanks for all of your input! I can't exactly move, I'm married and we are pretty settled here, but who knows, things may change. I think I will look at all my options and go from there. I can always change to something more interesting!:nurse: That's the great thing about nursing!! Thanks again!
