  1. I agree with the previous poster. Not only do I not want to be a guinea pig, I am planning on getting pregnant soon and do not want the vaccine in my system not knowing what it may do. We have to go before one of the MD's at the hospital I work at and tell why we are declining.

Thank you to all who have wrote me back. I'm still a little nervous (I hate tests!!), but it sounds like the rhythms and drugs are most important so that is what I will focus on! Thanks again!

I need some ideas on how and what to study for on my upcoming ACLS class. It will be my first time taking it and I would like to go in prepared. I am not a good test taker and need lots of studing! Any help would be great. Thank so much!
  4. The PICC was placed ultrasound guided, and yes there was a x-ray to confirm placement. Thanks!
  5. So I had this patient this last weekend that needed a PICC placed because his veins were shot from the IV Vanco he was recieving for cellulitis and being a past IV drug user. So about 10:00 that morning he gets his PICC. Placement looked good, he had no concerns or weird feelings. So we went throughout the rest of the day no problem. He was getting TKO with a rate of 20 throuh out the day just fine. Then night shift comes on. At about 2000 they administer his Vanco IV. It was mixed in a 750 ml NS bag. When the RN came back in the pt. was complaining of his neck hurting and it getting hard to breath. Sure enough when the nurse looked he had a HUGE swelling on the left side of his neck. Huge like a goiter! So they D/C the PICC, tried and IO which didn't work and finally got a TLC in his right groin. While the Dr. was trying to get all this done one of the nurses was calling all kinds of specialist to find out what they should be doing since the Vanco is so toxic. NOBODY knew what to do. They would be told to apply heat and then somebody else would call and say no, apply ice. This went on for about 2 hrs. We moved him to ICU for obbs. When I came back the next shift I was at a lost. NOBODY had heard of this happening??!!! So I was just wondering if any of you have seen this or heard about it and knew what could be done for this pt. or in the future should this happen again. Thanks!
  6. I love this forum! I too an a new nurse. I feel the same way you do, however feel lucky! Due to life events I am just now going to work after graduating in 2005! So it's been alot longer since I was on the floor. I love working now, but am scared to death I may do something wrong. And learning the meds over again is SOOOOO hard. But hang in there, that's all I keep telling myself. It will get better! Someday we will look back and see how far we have come! Good luck!:balloons:
  7. I too had trouble with the NCLEX. I graduated in 2005 and just passed it in Jan. I finally went through the Kaplan course online and passed. It doesn't get into content, but does do a good review. I strongly recommend it to you. And don't get discouraged, you too will make it. If we all can make it through nursing school we can pass the NCLEX! Good luck!
  8. Thanks so much for all your help. Hopefully I get an interview soon before I start showing!!
  9. I am just wondering what to do with trying to find a job and being 4 months pregnant. I have a feeling that some will look at me and think that in 5 months I'll need time off and go with another applicant. Plus I'm a new grad with no experience! Do I even tell them at the time of interview (I'm not showing much yet)? Any advice is appreciated!
  10. I don't remember reading anything about CE hours. I'm from Oregon and was told that 960 hours are required in the past five years for renewal.
  11. I have a question that I keep getting different answers on. Please HELP! I graduated from nursing school in May 2005, however didn't pass the NCLEX until January of this year 2007. I was told by one potential employer that I had to get in X amount of hours before September when my license will need to be renewed. So I called the Board of Nursing and was told that I needed a minimum of 960 hours during the previous five years but because I had only graduated two years ago it didn't apply yet. So I am currently still looking for a job, but am getting worried that I do need a certain amount of hours in before I renew my license. Can anyone explain this to me or let me know that YES I do need to get some hours in before September. Thank you so much for your help!

Thanks for all of your input! I can't exactly move, I'm married and we are pretty settled here, but who knows, things may change. I think I will look at all my options and go from there. I can always change to something more interesting! That's the great thing about nursing!! Thanks again!

Well just last week, Jan. 11, I passed my boards. I was so excited, I worked so hard for it. But now that I CAN work, I don't know where to start. In nursing school hospital nursing wasn't my favorite. I did well, but just wasn't sure if that's where I wanted to end up. I loved Mental Health and OB. But I live in a very small community. We have a 25 bed hospital, clinic, home-health and hospice, and that's about it. I know I don't have a lot of choices, but I want to make a good one. So is there any advice out there for a New Grad that isn't sure where she should start? Should I just buck up and get the most experience I can from the hospiat? What do you think?
