New Grad Question

Nurses General Nursing

Published

First time posting here.. Just wondering does anyone know after graduation, when still awaiting temp practice permit in the mail, is it okay to begin interviewing for jobs? or is the temp permit required? I would like to schedule my exam, but cannot do so without the permit, in the interim, I feel like I should be attempting to find a job, yet can I be hired without this official document? Red tape confusion... Thanks..

You can apply for jobs without your temp permit in hand. Many apply before graduation so go for it :). Good luck!!

Specializes in ICU.

you can apply as a grad nurse

I know of students that applied before Xmas, and they dont graduate until may!!

Specializes in Surgical Telemetry.

I graduated this past summer, I had applied for jobs in December. In my area that's when everyone else starts applying so that's what I did too.

Specializes in Med/Surg < 1yr.

I graduate in Dec and I just accepted a job on Friday. I won't start until Jan 19, I'd say start applying now!

Specializes in ER; HBOT- lots others.

Apply and tell the truth of the situation. i was hired before i graduated, w/out my grad nurse permit and got it once i was already on the general hospital orientation. they already had my name tag as grad nurse because you will get posted online for that way before you receive it in the mail.

Dorselm........congrats on the job. I'm in my 2nd year at Shadyside in the E/W program and I love it. Where did you take a position? Was it easy or difficult to find a job? I can't wait to be in your shoes!!!!!!

Specializes in Med-Surg, Cardiac.

The HR folks at our hospital are used to having students interview before graduation. When I sent in my acceptance, the HR people automatically set my start date one month after graduation. They said I should have my temporary license by then.
