New grad opening?

Due to the economy, I don't know any places that accept new grads "without hesitation." But from my research, many hospitals in the Puget Sound area do hire new grads. A few have actual new grad programs, while others will just hire new grads into a position. You will usually see something like "New grads are welcome to apply" in the job announcement. Seattle Children's did have a few new grad positions open when I checked last week.

The hospitals in the Puget Sound Area that I know about are: Providence in Everett, Overlake in Bellevue, Evergreen in Kirkland, and then the big Seattle hospitals: Swedish, Harborview, University of Washington, Northwest, Children's and Virginia Mason... They all have New grad RN residency programs you just have to watch their websites and see when they advertise that they're hiring for them. Lately, the response I've gotten has been that BSN's are preferred and they also prefer new grads with hospital exp. The abundant supply and decreased demand is making it tough for a new grad to get hired even for new grad specific positions!! Ugh!

Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital is a great place to start for new grads. I love working here and everyone is so friendly and SOO willing to help teach and guide new nurses. There are quite a few opening because we just got approved for more nurses to come on board. I don't know how long there will be this many though since it is quite a bit more than normal. However, I applied when I was on spring break in nursing school, and my nurse manager held the position for me until I graduated 3 months later! Plus then another month before I could take my RN-CLEX.

I know Yakima has a bad rap, but I have lived here my whole life and I love it. Like any city, there are areas that you don't want to live in d/t higher crime rates, but there are definatly safe, clean, nice areas all over too.

I believe Multicare (Tacoma General) has a new grad residency program. You might want to check it out.

Franciscan is always hiring grads. That would be St Joes in Tacoma, St Francis in Federal Way, St Claire in Lakewood, St Anthony in Gig Harbor and finally St Elizabeth in Enumclaw. :) Amongst the clinics, hospice, etc..

Thank you all for replying. I did apply to pretty much all of the above mentioned hospitals multiple times. I reckoned that there is indeed alot of competition and requires alot of hard work to land a position in a hospital. Haven't given up yet. But for the time being, I got a job as a private duty nurse. I am really thankful for this job and hoping to learn alot from it.

I know with Frasciscan, they always hire from within first. I applied to Lakewood and Tacoma (as an experienced nurse) and never got in. I did get in with them at a smaller hospital though and am very happy. Keep an close eye on Elizabeth if looking at Franciscan. We are growing and some people don't like growth and are thinking of leaving. I know one will be gone within the year because hubby was transferred. It's a pretty cool place to work.

Franciscan Health System (SJMC Tacoma; St. Clare, Lakewood; St Francis, Federal Way; St. Elizabeth, Enumclaw; St. Anthony Gig Harbor) does nire new grads and has rsidencies in Med/Surg, ED, Critical Care, L and D, Nursery, Perianesthesia, and Periop. You may not get your first choice, though. Hospitals in both Pierce and King Counties.

Providence offers new grad residencies in Olympia and Everett. Everett just expanded as well and I know they had a ton of positions to fill.

The big hospitals in Seattle will have more competition than the less central hospitals. Good luck with your search!

Hi NurseVoldemort! There is a possibility that I will be moving to Yakima at the beginning of the year, I was wondering if you had any advice on getting hired as a new grad in your area? Are there hospitals you prefer? I am not familiar with hiring in Yakima or anywhere in WA for that matter, so I appreciate any help you are able to give! Thanks so much in advance!
