Jan 27, 201412 yr Has anyone started to apply for the Nurse Corps loan repayment program? I wanted to see if anyone is having trouble using the application at all?
Jul 31, 201412 yr I just received an email stating my status has changed. I am a finalist for the award. I accepted and am waiting for counter signature. Has anyone heard of anyone being a finalist, accepting, and not getting awarded?
Aug 1, 201412 yr I'm wondering the same thing fsunole86. I'm an RN in Tier 2 with a 140% debt to income ration. Seems like so many people on here are tier one... I signed the contract and put my bank info in today, and am soooo excited I could cry, but I hate to get my hopes up too high. This would be life changing, it's hard to keep it together. Is there any further review of your application once you get a finalist letter, or is it literally just a matter of needing all the funding to come through to award all the people they made finalists?
Aug 1, 201412 yr I know, I was kind of surprised... This may sound dumb, but I kind of wonder if my HPSA ended up being higher because of the particular unit I work on. I work in the Burn ICU, and it's in a critical access hospital, but the score for the hospital itself is only 11 and caused me to be in Tier 2. However, my unit is a full service burn center, and is the only burn center in a 5 state area, taking all patients regardless of funding and take any insurace because we are the only center that can treat burns and soft tissue infections. It may not even matter, but I have to wonder. Mostly, I'm just trying really really hard to not get my hopes up so it would be less devastating if I didn't get the second signature!
Aug 1, 201412 yr Seems like lots of people are hearing things, which is exciting! I'm in tier 1 with >200%, and freaking out a little because I'm still under review...
Aug 2, 201412 yr I check everyday, hoping I just missed the email;( So far nothing. I am still hopefull, but it's getting harder to keep the faith. Super happy forever one who is in contract, it is a true blessing.
Aug 2, 201412 yr I also got my official welcome letter today!edited: I received the finalist email 7/1 and the official welcome letter 8/1. Tier 1, faculty, 113% debt/salary.
Aug 2, 201412 yr Really though, do people that are finalists not end up receiving the award very often?
Aug 2, 201412 yr Also, it says on the website that they calculate our debt to income ratio based off of our base annual salary. Working clinically, a lot of our additional pay comes from shift differentials, etc. Our base annual salary technically wouldn't include any of that though, right? It would basically just be our hourly pay multiplied by our FTE (mine is technically 36 hours per week), multiplied by 52 weeks in the year? Anyone know for sure what the deal is with that?
Aug 2, 201412 yr As far as I know, that's how salary is calculated, although my information is from a friend who received the award last year, not an official source.
Aug 2, 201412 yr I can only speak to my process as faculty, but my base salary is what was reported by my point of contact (employer). It was my base salary.I don't know whether there are finalists that don't end up with funding. From my stalking of past threads, that does not seem to happen.
