I don't know if it will work or not, but speak to the head of Admissions and see if they would be willing to take a high school transcript that was received by the college where you were first enrolled.

Some colleges will accept that, some won't, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

ooo good idea. I just called my HS and they said they did send it, so I dunno now, I gave them the info AGAIN, so they are going to double check since the lady I had spoken to is on vacation. What are the odds.

Another good idea is to use a courier envelope that you can track when getting/sending international documents. I used to get the NAME of someone at the school/uni, and then I could chase them up personally if it wasn't sent, or get them to email me when they did send it.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this, but as someone who used to live in the Caribbean, I found that sometimes it does take a while for things that are sent out from there to arrive in the continental U.S. I do have to wonder why students who have a college degree have to send in their high school transcripts to nursing schools. I would think that courses taken in college would be more relevant, and prove that you did, in fact, graduate from high school.

I am also from somewhere other than the US...in my case they made me start all over...from scratch, school diploma or not, they didn't care about my prior education in my native country. my papers were all translated into English and notarized and still.... they made me take the GED. I cried every darn day when I first came here, they made me feel like I was a nobody. Well, I gave it to them and then some....I worked my butt off, studied and then some more, payed them their money and did great on all tests. I am doing good in college and excel in every class, including all the English classes tha tI had to take. They'll have to put up with me getting a degree, like it or not ( I actually achieved an Associates already) LOL there is no way I will srub toilets for the rest of my existence, they want brains and money I show them brains and money I hope the paper drama comes to a quick end so that you can get started and good luck in your future.

It's not just you and it's not just the USA. I've run into academic prejudice here in the UK. The fact that I have a BA doesn't seem to mean anything to some people because I don't have GCSEs or A-levels, which are qualifications obtained by British schoolchildren while in secondary school. I think it's pretty pathetic myself, but that's just the way it is. :angryfire

Hello, it's nice to meet people who go through siimilar things and understand. I didn't know you are currently in the UK. I am from Europe but never had the opportunity to visit there. We are survivors and do the best we can under the circumstances. It took a few years for me to "catch" up....ehemmm, I am still trying to catch up...having kids on top of everything delayed things even more and now here I am....old and grey and still in college....BUT KICKING BUTT, TOO

I do know what it feels like to have your education discounted and stomped on by people who don't understand what your country's system is about. Luckily I won't have to actually go to school here in the UK but since the DCCCD doesn't seem to care if you hold a BA or not, I may have to repeat classes that I already have credit for anyway. :angryfire

Plum pudding....I remember this from my English lessons in my native country....we learned Oxford English and some of the stories we read were from the old times.....and they talked about plum pudding for X-Mas.

Well of course, duh, it's my native language!!!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHA did you really? I've heard stories about students from the UK and Australia having to take TOEFL exams but I can't believe that would be true; that's sort of like having to take a CLEP test in your own language. Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?

:lol_hitti I am not lying....it is for real, they made me take the CLEP in German so that I could fullfill the foreign language requirement and graduate with an Associates in Arts ( I was born and raised in GE and came to the US in the early 1980's), To initially get into college I had to get a GED and take College Entrance Exam (forgot the name of that one)

One thing that I can honestly say is that I have NEVER felt discriminated against by any one college professor, and I had lots of those at different colleges in the US. Everyone has been super supportive of me and usually enjoyed having me in class, even the not so popular professors.I work hard and I make them look good
