I am studying to take my NCLEX. I need help figuring out test questions that ask what is a therapeutic INR for a patient receiving Coumadin. Don't know how to figure out the ratios.
Thanks

The terapeutic range is 1.5 to 2 times the control (normal) lab values.
I hope that this is of help to you.

INR for most patients on coumadin is recommended between 2.0 and 3.0, (afib, surgery, etc)
occasionally i see a pt where doc wants INR kept a little higher, between 2.5 and 3.5 (i read that this is for pts with mechanical heart valves, but this pt did not have those, was just the preference of the ortho surgeon).
hope this helps, good luck on your NCLEX!

Thanks guys. Okay, therapeutic range is 1.5 to 2 times the control. What number is the control (normal lab values).
Wish I had written those problems down.
Seems like I saw a question asking is 55 a therapeutic dose. I wish I had written them down so I could present the problems to you the way the questions were asked.
Cheers.
