Need to get post grad.

Is everyone else feeling the pressure to get a post grad.? Seems to get a job or change you need one of these, these days.

Employers are starting to be spoilt and can pick and choose.:)

Definitely, but I think it's good. I know working here and in the US, it's a lot more expected over there that you will go on and get at least a masters degree. Extra education can only be beneficial.

Im out of uni 4 years and want to go back to get a post grad because I feel that my brain is turning to mush. I can function highly at work but I need to stretch myself :)

It's much easier to get back into it if you don't leave it too long and get out of the study habits too! And I agree... I've been out of uni for 15 years (good god, where did that go!?), but I've probably only gone 2-3 years at the most between courses, I get too bored otherwise.

Yes, I too love study, and have 2 subjects to go to finish a Grad Cert....though I find out today nursses that are studying another chronic disease are given more study leave than I am for my study of a chronic disease. Just a little annoyed that my clients are considered not so iimportant. Geez I would never be a manager I critical think far too much and hate injustice.

And I suppose it is nice to know that if anything else came up in my specialised area I have the step up at least plus another nice hecs payment. :yeah:

There is definitely pressure to get a post grad qualification. I have found that employers won't even consider you if you don't have one. And you are right; when many nurses get more educated employers will be more picky, so the pressure is on. I have been asked in interviews if I was doing post grad stuff and when I said no, was kinda asked why not? And what else have I been doing since finishing university? I feel like yelling: Trying to just survive that's what!

I think extra study is good - it helps keep the brain ticking over. I don't worry re HECS fees cos I don't have to pay it all at once, and if I die the debt is written off.

You are absolutely wrong about "Employers are starting to be spoilt and can pick and choose".

Employers have been already extremely spoiled and they do not want to pick and choose. They keep confirming that "We need more nurses" so that more people want to pursue and apply for work in nursing. As a result, they will have the God's hand and we need them to save our destiny... Sorry that is just my personal point of view. Life is becoming more political than ever before... :(
