Need advice

Published

Hello all. I finally got my date to go before the NCBON. It's thursday July 11. I'm a nervous wreck like I'm sure most of us are or were before going. What should I expect at this appointment? What kind of questions do they ask & how does it all work? I do have an attorney who will be present with me but she's not giving me any info of what to expect yet. I have a phone conference with her scheduled for wednesday. What kind of rulings usually occurs?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I was very nervous before my meeting with the ncbon. They asked me about the error that lead to my positive drug test. Asked if ive used drugs since. Asked how to avoid making medication error that I made. It was very nerve wrecking but they were all nice. I was sent back to the waiting room while they decided their action. I was taken into a small conference room where the nurse in charge of my case and legal explained my probationary contract. I signed and then waited for my copies. I'm here to answer any questions for you.

Ty Michelle. Was there other people in the room with you when they questioned you? How many people are on they're panel? The more I think about it the worse my nerves get. I just want all of this behind me like all of us here.

You will most likely lose your licence for 90 days then you will go back for another meeting. Expect outpt rehab and drug screenings that will be observed and once you find employment somewhere then your contract time will start counting until then your time means nothing to the ncbon. I tested for 6 months before I found someone willing to give me an opportunity.I now have 18 months left on my 3 year contract which I signed on 2/2011

I surrendered my license in Sept 2011. So I currently don't have my license. I've been doing the random drug screens for almost 2 yrs. Do you usually have to sign a contract?

I had to surrender my license for at least 90 days, at that time I signed section one of the contract. They gave me back my licensure after my time was up and then I signed section two. Your three years in the program does not start until you gain employment. It all seems very punitive, but it is possible! With or without a job you're still expected to drug screen and attend aftercare for 52 weeks. There are also two programs the AP which is the better option, as it is kept private, leaves no mark on your license and shorter license surrender time. Or the CDDP which leaves a mark, is public knowledge and you surrender your license for longer. I hope it goes well on the 11th, I'll be praying for you!

There were approx 3-4 on the panel...maybe 10 total in the room..I surrendered my license over a year before...my contract said I will continue to drug test for one year and have my supervisor complete four 3 month evals ......I didn't have restrictions on narcs, hours, or type of nursing...I was lucky and was hired to my job right away.

I meant four 3 month eval

Ty all for the replies. I'm currently doing the aftercare which will last for 52 wks. What is the AP program?

AP is the alternative to discipline program. The board will let you know which you qualify for, but the AP really is the better route for keeping your license clean. I guess in the long run if you get to nurse again is really what matters though!

Congrats on 2 yrs and knowing when it was time to nurse again! Taking time to work on yourself is very important in recovery and in general good healthy living.

July 11, the NCBON is in control as much as you let them , REMEMBER they put there pants on just like you and breath the same air.

1. Be respectful while respecting yourself.

2. You are important!

3. Love yourself, look in the mirror before you go in and say

" I am a GREAT nurse, I love myself, I am worth being respected and loved"

Ask to review your file before you answer any questions, if you do not agree with the outcome ask for a hearing, know your Practice act and administrative rules. The will ask about your recovery, job, sponsor and her phone number, (know it ) what step your are working on with your sponsor. The entire meeting in stressful, if you meditate put yourself in a GREAT place. Take a deep breath before you answer any questions and just answer the question do not ramble on and on and on.....

I hope this info helps.
