NEED ADVICE/INFO

Published

Ok, I am a charge nurse at a facility that hires travel nurses. I came to work yesterday and found out that my boss was letting a travel nurse go because of errors on her timesheet. She had been marking down times that she wasn't working. Any who she was let go because of falsifying her timesheets. She contacted me this evening wanting to know if her license was going to be taken away. I didn't know what to tell her because I wasn't sure if this was a reason for it to be taken away.

Can anyone give me light on this situation? Advice?? Opinions?? Information in this subject or similar situations?

The facility said they were going to report it to the BON in the state......just wanting some information on this matter.

Travel nurse has serious issues. Falsification of time reporting is just plain crazy, especially when working as a traveler.

We were under a special microscope.

I would think that it's up to your state's BON to examine the infraction.

YOUR main issue is.. how and why is she contacting YOU? Stay out of it!

Yeah, I would stay out of this one. Facility leadership already stepped in and let her go. She is putting you into a position to take sides. I would tell her that the decision was made by leadership and you do not feel it is appropriate for her to be calling you.

I am out of it was just curious. Didn't know if anyone had heard of nursing licenses taken away because of this type of issue. I personally was curious and looked it up on the bon under the FAQ's. It stated this:

What kinds of issues are not within the Board's jurisdiction?

Examples include but are not limited to: Employment issues (i.e., no call-no show, failure to complete work notice, co-worker disagreements, bedside manners, rudeness and personality conflicts, attendance issues, work hours); fee disputes/compensation claims.

Does this fall into this category?

Interesting. The nerve of some people! We also had a traveler who, after being let go (for very good reasons), called one of the charges for a reference, haha!

Could it not be considered theft if she had in fact received pay based on the false hours?

More than likely the BON will not do anything but open an investigation. They typically stay out of employer/employee disputes, even if those disputes are about ethical questions.

If this involved theft relating to a patient they would be all over it but my money would be on they do nothing but maybe interview her.
