Well after graduuating nursing school and getting accepted into the residency program at our local hospital. I took my NCLEX yesterday. I sat in that chair for 5 hours and 50 minutes!!! Had all 265 questions and failed..Needless to say, I do not get the job at the hospital. The test was awful. I think if I sat through all the darn questions they should have passed me for the torture! Well, I will be fine. I will test again in 45 days...

Hey there,
Don't give up hope. This time, you could wait to apply for a position until after you get your license and be certain to be a good candidate. In the meantime, take the chance to volunteer as a CNA in an area of interest, perhaps even at the same place to prove your mettle.
If it helps, I passed my NCLEX without too much difficulty and I think this was in large part thanks to my prep.
To study,
- I Did 150 NCLEX-style questions a night for 3 weeks straight on the NCLEX 4000 CD
- Highlighted the whole of Saunders Review
- Nearly memorized my in-person test review HESI book (You may be able to get this on Ebay or something - or I could mail you my copy)
--> To note: focus on infection control, safety measures, important labs and basic classes of medication adverse reactions, i.e. serotoin syndrome.
If you have the cash, I hear Kaplan is a great option for learning how to take the NCLEX - which is half the battle.
If you need any additional help, feel free to contact me. Good luck!

I love your attitude. I took mine last week Friday and failed as well and was a complete wreck for the entire weekend. I also had a job lined up that I was supposed to start but thank God they are holding my position for me. I sat thru the entire test as well so I know that means I was very close. All of my classmates who took Kaplan passed so I decided to take it and I wished I would have done it sooner. I can see how it is definitely a big help.

Hey, it's normal to feel like a failure. That test is RIDICULOUS. It's so devastating to have to go through that again, but you have to. YOU WILL pass, and as cliche as this sounds, EVERYTHING happens for a reason.
I wish you all the best, and know that you soon will be an official RN:yeah:

Sorry ... get back out there! I wish I could say I know how you feel but I don't...I had a girlfriend who didn't pass until her fourth try, fourth! She was a complete wreck but it wan't until she relaxed and went in did she pass. Remember when you go in again it doesn't matter if you sit for the whole thing. I was in there for the same duration you were and passed.
What questions did the computer keep asking you? That's the area you need to bone up on.
I'll talk with the universe and in 45 days it will be safe to take the test again. every little bit helps.

Just wondering what you used for review...In my graduating class everyone, and I mean everyone who used Kaplan (full course or Qbank) passed in 80 questions or less. At this point that's about 15 people. If you can find a way to afford it, please consider this. Three students who used other review courses had all 265 and passed, 1 student was unsuccessful using other resources. Bottom line, Kaplan all the way! Worth every penny.

Sorry to hear that. I took mine this morning but apparently my score is on hold. Got to 79 questions.
FYI, Kaplan and Pearson (who does the testing in NY) are owned by Washington Post. Just saying

I also highly recommend Kaplan but also an extra book called Prioritization, Delegation, and Application by Linda LaCharity. 22% of the NCLEX questions are prioritization of care (which pt do you see first) and delegation questions--that is the biggest component. Nursing schools need to catch up with the current NCLEX and teach the students how to answer these questions. ---(CC 2010 RN grad)

A lot of people I know took hurst review and passed. I found saunders a joke, the questions are so easy. I didn't want to spend much money so I went to the ncsbn website (people who actually write nclex) and paid 50 bucks for a 3 week online review, passed in 75 questions. That is my suggestion. Good luck!!!

Hey, if you don't want to take the Kaplan course (it's expensive!) it might be worth buying the book just for the strategies it has in it. It's under 40 bucks and you could probably find it used online. I found it pretty helpful...
Best of luck to you!!
