NCLEX fears...

I know this will not calm your fears any but there's absolutely no way to tell you what will be on it unless it's changed since I took it 10 years ago. My girlfriend took hers 1 day before mine and ended up with a bunch of renal quesions and drug questions. The next day I ended up with a bunch of nutrition questions. We were asked other questions but the bulk of our questions were as I mentioned. I took my NCLEX immediately. The first appointment I could get after my go ahead. I don't think that it matters that you waited 6 months. Either you know it or you don't. Doing those practice tests help because it prepares you for the format and you get to see the answer and rationale for th eones you may miss.

Calm down. Take deep breaths and just keep practing the questions. It can't hurt.

I took my NCLEX-LPN exam in June. All I studied from was a Saunders CD. I did 100 questions a day for about a week and I did fine. I thought the CD was really helpful.

Unfortunately, these days, there is no person that can tell you what to expect because the test is individualized. I had one math question and the rest for me focused on renal, neuro and cohorting questions. I got about 7 all that apply in a row, had nothing on woman's health, one cheap shot peds question and 10 medications (and I only recognized 5 of them). Think hard through each question, and only resort to guessing when you really don't know. I found it to be strange...I would not have expected some of the questions I received, but I thought that I failed. I passed with the minimum...85 questions, and I never want to see another NCLEX exam again...mainly because of the mental strain I was under.

I just took the NCLEX-PN a month ago and I waited until the day before to study. I too had the Saunders book and didnt think the questions themselves helped. BUT just taking practice tests got me in the way of "test taking" thinking. What it comes down to, is you either know it or dont. There were 28 people in my class, and 23 have taken it so far and we've all passed.

I used the Silvestri book and CD and it is by far the most difficulty of any of the material I worked with. I think it is the best, as well.

Just remember that whether you pass or fail the test you will only be able to answer 50% of the questions correctly (See page 15 - "Grading The Test" in you NCLEX Candidate Bulletin to clarify) - so don't panic if you feel you are not doing well enough on the exam.

My suggestion at this point is to review Chapter 5 "Test taking Strategies" ( if you have the book) which suggests how to approach each type of question you might run into. It really helped me when I had to make those hair splitting choices.

I graduated around July 1 and took my text October 11 - Many people told me to take the text right away and without studying, but I just don't work that way.

I passed and also got a lot out of my review time. I don't think the six months will matter at all.

P.S. Working with the Silvestri material really scared me as the questions are often way harder than in the other books. Sounds like that is about where you are at...

I took my NCLEX Tuesday. I used Saunders Comprehensive Review and Kaplan strategies. I found out today that I passed. I had 85 questions. I graduated in July, so I don't think that it matters that you graduated 6 months ago. Brush up on the information, have confidence, try to fight off the anxiety. You will do GREAT!

I DID IT!!! I PASSED!!! I'm so happy. It wasnt nearly as hard as I psyched myself up to think it would be. I actually walked out of the test feeling pretty confident that I'd passed, but today, I got my license number and was so happy/relieved that I cried!
