You're correct, gp. I too would appreciate knowing where this bit of disinformation originated. NO STATE to the best of my knowledge has any such restriction, and I'm frankly surprised to see a Moderator spreading disinformation.

Not all states permit the CRNA to insert an epidural. Also depends on hospital policy.

Actually suzanne4, you are mistaken. ALL CRNAS in any state can place epidurals! But yes, local hospital policy may restrict crnas from placing epidurals. And the reason being is politics, and nothing to do with patient saftey. Its all about the money and MDAs being able to bill for the epidural. Friendly advice.... next time, know your facts before you spout things off about subject matter that your not familar with

Actually that did not come off as friendly in any way. I agree that you should now your facts before speaking but I also believe that you should correct others in a more polite fashion. Everyone will make a mistake someday so lets treat others the way we want to be treated.

please folks, this is a board of professionals or soon-to-be professionals. in that light: let's remain on polite terms when correcting others. i thank you.

From an OB nurse's perspective, the women I care for are getting epidurals from all men, except for ONE woman MDA. And we have several male OB docs. None seem to protest, except on religious grounds, and usually things work out so their needs are satisfied, too. The poster who said "women just want their epidurals" is so right. They don't care at that point (in hard labor) if you are male or female, just competent, skilled and efficient.
