moving to phoenix

I will be graduating nursing school in May 2007. I will be moving to phoenix area. I have two interviews this week, one with Mayo and one with St. Joe. Could anyone please give me advice on these hospitals or nice areas to live. I have two young children and need a safe enviroment.

Mayo is a good place to work, benfits are good. Mayo has two hospitals in the valley, both on East side of town in north Scottsdale area(northeast valley). Scottsdale is pricey. But you don't have to live right in Scottsdale.

Northwest area is very nice and a little more affordable but would be far drive to Mayo. But there are hospitals on that side of town.

St Joe's good but wouldn't want to live in that neighborhood. You'd have to commute. Traffic is bad at peak hours.

Best to live close as you can to where you work, expecially is you have kids and have to take them or pick them up, etc.

Have you checked out travel nurse assigments? Good way to get here and they pay your rent. That's how I moved here. And you get to try out a hospital and get the scoop first hand on other hospitals. All the hospitals use them and they all need nurses.

You will have to wear all white to work at Mayo :trout:

Come on over to the Arizona board.....we have discussed all the hospitals over there

I work at St Joes. I love it there. The neighborhood around it is not great. I live in the east valley and have no problem with traffic as I work nights.

ditto on the all white at Mayo...ick

worked at St Joe's until recently...Great neuro hospital...ER staffing has been recently cut back...lots of unhappy nurses in the ED...

i'd say st. joes is great. i liked jcl north mountain, nurses seemed happy there. mayo is super-strange and culty (can't explain it, you got to see it to know what i mean), county is what you'd expect--as is the v.a.--no further explanation needed. i did clinicals out at del webb and at boswell. both are pretty good, sign on bonus and relatively happy nurses. i'd say, imo, stay away from baptist, paradise valley, scottsdale osborne. if you want to work with adults check jcl, joes, scottsdale shea. i'm a peds gal and so i am to start in their new grad program in february. (best peds hospital in the state--my opinion).

good luck and let us know how it turns out!
