Morale boosters?

Published

Curious what some of you do at work for morale besides coming in and going home. Over here we've done the casino bus and employee bowling night with varying degrees of interest. Of course there's the potluck, but there's always the potluck. Do any of you do things with your coworkers, group activities, that everyone is interested in, to which people actually show up, have fun, bond together?

Thanks!

I always cringe at the forced "theme" nights and get togethers hospitals sometimes create. Want me to raise my morale? Stop spending money on these things and give us a payraise! My morale would be uncontainable then!

I don't have a problem with activities like this unless they are mandatory, which I have experienced although not where I work now.

The most extreme case was a company-paid trip to Cancun for employees and spouses, and it was expected that everyone would go. What about provisions for children or dependent adults? Not the company's problem.

I'm not working at a hospital.. yet. Finished my GE and doing my nursing pre-req's. Until I get into nursing school I plan on staying at my job at The Men's Wearhouse. I just work in the mailroom at the executive office. I have never worked for a company that is so bent on high work morale. Last night they paid for us and our families to go see Wall-E. They rented out one of the theaters, paid for our snack bar, and gave out prizes before the movie started. We also have company picnics, huge christmas parties, and more recently a Wii bowling tournament where the winner won a Wii. :yeah: I'd love to get a job in a hospital to prepare myself for that line of work, but the company is I work for now is so great that I just don't have the heart to leave. :uhoh21: Of course, when nursing school starts it'll be another story.

I suggested a locker decorating contest. Softball teams are great, play against other units or other hospitals.

you know....I do a good job, and I care for my patients. Get us some updated equipment, back us on support/doc issues, and my morale would go through the roof!

Adequate staffing and up-to-date equipment are always good.

In re-reading this, I should explain that the Cancun trip was not sponsored by my employer, but by the employer of the spouse of someone I know.

Last facility did a yearly waterpark cookout (several dates posted for different shifts)and they did a pumpkin decorating contest that always brought out the fun in each department for the fall. Oh, and the quarterly "win a maid" or car detailing was always appreciated.
