Mnemonics

I am big on using mnemonic for anything I can.

What are some mnemonics you've heard or come up with to help you?

Here's one we've probably all heard.

Bones of the Skull

Fraternity - Frontal

Parties - Parietal

Often - Occipital

Teach - Temporal

Sex Ed - Sphenoid

The mnemonics I've used so far are:

  • For cranial nerves - "On Occasion Our Trusty Truck Acts Funny, Very Good Vehicle AnyHow" (olfactory, optic, oculomotor, trochlear, trigeminal, abducens, facial, vestibulocochlear, glossopharyngeal, vagus, accessory, and hyploglossal)
  • For the vertebra, just remember the times people typically eat meals; 7am - breakfast - 7 cervical vertebrae, 12 pm - lunch - 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5pm - dinner - 5 lumbar vertebrae

Hope this helps!

Uh, yes it is! Our anatomy teacher instead substituted "very good velvet, ah."

Though I have heard/read/whatever that people remember the dirty ditties better than the clean ones.

Probably true you are correct!

Hey! This one is funny

It's for anticholinergics and the major side effects of them :-)

Can't pee

Can't see

Can't spit

Can't Sh!t

(Since they are given for the desirable affects of decreasing salivation, lacrimation, urination, diarrhea, and GI motility :-) Blurred vision and dilated pupils are also side effects )
