Microbiology Prep

Hey Everyone!

Has anyone on here taken Microbiology before and could recommend any studying material before the class starts? This next semester is my last before I apply to nursing school in January so I really need an A!

Thanks

Know your A&P, know the cell and its functions, Krebs cycle, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, know the cell shapes. Micro is fun!!! Especially if you have an awesome professor. Enjoy! And good luck!

Micro was lots of fun. The best thing I did for myself was Quizlet, which I also used for A&P. This is how I studied for all my lecture and lab exams and kept all my information organized. It's also great because you can use the app on your phone when you're not home to study.

Quizlet is the best! Also as another poster said, cell functions, cell respiration, prokaryote vs eukaryote differences, gram negative vs gram positive.

I really dreaded taking this class but it was probably my favorite of all the pre-req's. I had an amazingly passionate instructor and he was very up to date on current research and would integrate that into what we were studying in class which made it so much more relatable and fun to learn about.

I agree with the others, know cellular respiration inside and out! Also, DNA synthesis and all the steps involved within it. I thought I was going to really dislike micro and ended up loving it, especially the labs. Just stay on top of studying and an A is totally doable!

Tbh I didn't like Microbiology :/ make sure to pay attention in lab, your teacher for that is such an important resource! ANYTHING you don't understand, stay after and ask. It's likely whatever that is will show up later in another lab or be on your practical. Good luck!

I just took micro this summer semester....I loved it! I am beginning to think I am a nerd because I have loved all the challenging classes so far....the best advice I can give is to use all your resources and go the extra mile especially if you don't understand the material...it's quite fascinating to me.

Quizlet saved my life in Micro! My class used the Mastering Microbiology online software along with the text book, but really I didn't use my text book at all. My instructor had awesome lecture notes, and with the Mastering Microbiology software it was a breeze. If your instructor doesn't use the MM software, be sure to search Quizlet sets with Mastering Microbiology titles, as they have awesome diagnostic scenarios that help you relate the microorganisms and diseases to real life. Good luck girl, one more semester!
