micro online...

Sorry, I originally posted this in the pre-nursing forum. Was supposed to be here!
I'm enrolled for Micro through Edukan for the fall, but it's with a teacher that I don't really like (had him for A&P 1 and will again for A&P2.) I know ccconline offers it but I can't afford it. Who's taken other online ones? Have you taken it at Edukan? I didn't like Simmons for AP, so I wonder if he's as hard for Micro. Thanks!

I have Reichert for A&P 1. She doesn't seem too bad at all. I don't think she teaches A&P 2, though. I'm signed up to part 2 in the fall with Lee.

I'm trying to find Micro online as well. I feel the same way about ccconline. I really liked the chemistry class I took with them, but if I have to take Micro with them I might as well declare bankruptcy:roll

Hey there! I took Micro at Rio and LOVED IT. It was then that I realized that Simmons really did not provide us with a quality (IMO) course. Please note: I was originally going to take Micro with simmons, but when the course description arrived (2 weeks before the class started) I found out that I would have to travel to Kansas to do labs (2 x) during the semester. It was mandatory. That was in January. Not sure if they have changed it.

p.s. I didn't think simmons was hard, just not available, no online lectures, no feedback, slides, etc. You had to teach yourself. I think he is just overloaded... he teaches a lot of classes.

What can you tell me about the Rio class? Was it hard? I mean it is going to be a hard class regardless, but was it manageable? What's the tuition like for Rio? Are they the one that requires you to buy a microscope and lab kit?

HI, I took micro from Excelsior (I think you do NOT have to be enrolled to take). It was my first distance learning and frist Excelsior class. I simply read the micro text cover to cover in about 3 weeks and passed with a good grade. It was not easy but certainly not impossible either. There is free study guide which I did not know to follow at the time.

I have also been trying to figure out what I am going to do about Micro. I just went to Rio's site and they do offer lots of courses. And the tuition seems reasonable. However, I did notice that for Micro it requires 2 "in-person exams". Was that the case when you took the course?

At Rio they do have a midterm and final exam that must be taken either with a proctor (I used my local librarian) or in Arizona. It was much more organized than AP1 class. As far as ease... I received a 91% with Simmons.. and a 96% in Micro... The exam questions were straightforward rather than "hokey" ones like in AP1. Lana.. I think you understand what I mean.

No microscope needed. Lana, I have my lab cd's that we used and my lab atlas, you can have it if you want. PM me.

Was there a prerequisite for their microbiology? I didn't need general biology, my college uses A&P 1 to satisfy that requirement. I think ccconline's prerequisites are A&P 1 and 2. If you know what Rio's is, please let me know. I only need A&P 2 and Micro now and I'm done with prerequisites.

What is the college name on your transcript from Rio? Is it Rio Salado or Maricopia Community College? I need to know so I can check with my college I will transfer to.

Hi Lana... I am not sure what the transcript says. I had them directly send it to my college. They are very friendly over at Rio, so I would imagine that you could call and ask them.

Were you able to find a cooperating lab for Simmon's Micro class? I was never able to, thus Rio....

Thanks. I'll call and check. I haven't even attempted to find a cooperating lab, but it's only about a 5 hour drive for me to go there for the labs, which is doable. Still trying to figure out what I will do. Before I lean too far towards Rio I want to make sure OU will accept it.

Hi Lana!!

I attempted to take micro with RIO but my teacher was very DIFFICULT . I dropped and im in my 4th week of an 8 week class with ccc . I have a A so far the tests cover what is in the book , and the teacher is great , Yes it is expensive but I do think it is well worth it !Also you do not have to pay untill you are done with the class so they give you sometime I def. reccomend it , goodluck with any of your choices!
