  1. Other foreign applicants are having a hard time obtaining licensure in CA. You will find incompetent graduates from all nations. Really look at the definition of incompetent. Lacking qualification or ability. It's not a bad thing if you think about it. All new nurses are incompetent until they gain experience in their specialty. We aren't born with experience it's gained through years of practice.
  2. Just an FYI, you may not qualify for the Method #3 because I believe that's for CNAs with many years experience in all fields of nursing who can take the NCLEX-PN. You may want to contact the BVNPT directly and get clairfication because using method #3 will limit your scope as an LVN. You may not be able to take the IV ceritfication with using Method #3. I'm advising you to contact the board directly. You may be able to apply as a LVN with out using any of the methods. Good Luck
  3. Sitting for the NCLEX-PN is a possibility because in CA the RN & LVN board are two seperate boards. You may quality for the PN exam because from what I remember there is nothing on the website asking for concurrency in clinical and theory. The thing is that the BVNPT requires more clinical time than the BRN. Clinical experiences in the Philipppines is way beyond that. Good Luck
  4. I don't get it, why are they requiring RNs who were previously LVNs to have experience as RNs. Geez Louise LVNs are nurses too. As a LVN I get my OWN patient load in the hospital. I can hang blood in CA. I only call the RN if I have an IV antibiotic or need the initial assessment of the new admit. I take over afterwards. So I don't see how a new RN would need RN experience. It's a joke! Regarding Excelsior, I'm going through with it because I'm moving either to Florida or Arizona and they accept Excelsior. CA may or may not license me but I really don't care. They have a lot to learn anyway. Good Luck to all
  5. You can use Nevada in order to gain licensure but good luck trying to endorse your license back into CA because you will run into the same problem. What you may want to find out is if the courses that are in question are required by CA nursing students to complete. If they aren't required by CA nursing students and in fact it's beyond CA nursing student requirements you may want to ask the BRN "WHY IS IT THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE IF CA NURSING STUDENTS DON'T HAVE TO COMPLETE THIS REQUIREMENT FOR AN ASSOCIATES DEGREE?" Just a thought. Good Luck
  6. It all depends on which state your friend wants to live and practice in. Each state has their requirements and a person must meet that states requirement. They can go through another route and attempt to endorse their license into another state but they must still meet that states requirement. Suggest your friend go to each state boards and read on the requirements and find the state that meets his/her needs. Good Luck
  7. Remember that if you're not able to take the NCLEX using CA you can go through another state. But keep in mind that when attempting to endorse back into CA you may run into the same problems. The bright side is that you will be a Registered Nurse even if it's through another state. CA can and may deny you license, but they can't take the title away from you. Good Luck
  8. It would be in your best interest to take some sort if refresher courses. If you didn't pass the NCLEX-RN after 5 tries then there is something wrong. It could be easily that you may have some test taking disabilities that need to be addressed. Good Luck
  9. Yup, I moved it to next month. I'm just not feeling confident enough since I have those scores. Sighhhhh I really wanted to take it ASAP but I will wait. Thanks for the info.
  10. I have been reading the studygroup 101 along with the required med surg book and a NCLEX-RN book that I borrowed from a friend.
  11. The whole concurrent with theory issue is just rediculous if you ask me. How can they expect you to take do a clinical rotation concurrently with theory on a subject that you are just beginning to learn. You need to be able to apply what you've learned in your theory class with clinicals. Do you know how many times we've had clinical instructors expect us to know stuff that we hadn't covered in class yet? So how can we apply stuff we haven't even learned yet during clinicals. You may want to use that explanation on your letter to CA. Yes, I'm in CA and I'm doing Excelsior but I'm also moving to Arizona or Florida within the next couple of years so and Arizona does require clinicals (other than the CPNE) to be completed before you graduate. Just an FYI Excelsior graduates aren't banned from applying to CA, they are just being denied. But I know of a few appeals that are going on at the moment. It's very hard to deny a graduate when they graduated from a NLNAC accredited when some schools in CA aren't. From what I've heard if you have a BSN or higher it may work in your favor.
  12. Texas I too did the samething. I'm scheduled to take the same exam very soon and I'm nervous because I had scored better the first time around. You did a lot better than I did. Sighhhh I'm so nervous about taking the exam.
  13. Kassie I'm taking the Health & Safety very soon and I'm scared as I did better the first time I took the practice exam. I really don't think it matters in what order you did them. Just before you enroll take the two courses. Good Luck
  14. Does it state on the application that by signing it that you've been truthful and honest in your statements? I'm unsure because it's been awhile since I applied to take the NCLEX. As it's been stated previously just state that you took the NLE and you didn't pass. I've known people who have taken the NCLEX more than once and that doesn't make them less of a nurse. So don't let the fact that you didn't pass bother you. What should bother you more is lying on an application. Just be truthful and see what happens. The BRN is more concerned about your education and that it meets their requirements.
  15. Just to add I felt prepared before I took the second exam. After all of the reviewing that I did I feel ready to take the exam. But the scores are on the back of my mind. How is this exam scored. I've heard of a person who got a score in the 60's and failing and a person getting 50 something and passing. All advise appreciated. Thanks again.
