Hi all,
I am starting the MCPHS accelerated BSN program in Worcester next January. I was wondering if there are any students currently in the program on this forum-if so I would like to hear what others think (positive and negative feedback) about the program. Any insight is appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,
I just graduated from the 1st class at MCPHS in Worcester last week. I had my bachelor's from MCPHS in Boston, which I liked a lot more.
Being the 1st class, there was alot of drama among the 35 students.(we started with roughly 40 students...5 failed out over the course of the semesters). There was a lot of faculty turnover which was frustrating b/c some didn't wait until the end of the semester to leave. As long as you study, you'll make it. They tell you not to work while in the program, but most of our class did. I worked FT (30 hours per week) at a pharmacy while in the program and still graduated with over a 3.2 GPA. Be prepared to write alot of papers, put in a lot of clinical hours (more than most schools), and use most of your free time studying. On a positive note, the program does prepare you for the NCLEX really well. Most of the final exams are computerized and set up like a NCLEX exam. Also, being a small class, the faculty does listen and change things with student input. It seems like anytime our class complained, we got what we want. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. I haven't taken the NCLEX yet, but will probably next month. The sixteen months is a big commitment....but I think it's easier than my first major. Hope this helps. Any q's reply back.

This is just the kind of post I was looking for! I am starting the accelerated program at MCPHS-Manchester this fall. It's good to hear that you were able to work while in the program. I am planning to work 20 hours per week, but will cut back if necessary. If anyone else has anything to share about this program or accelerated programs in general that would be great. Liz, good luck with the NCLEX and getting your first nursing job!

Hi LIZH18,
I'm planning on attending MCPHS Worcester in 09 and I was wondering if you could give me a little more information about the program. You said that you were able to work while in the program...can you give me an idea of what the program entails? For instance, how much work goes into the program each week, with the amount of studying that needs to take place. Also, over all did you enjoy the program??
I'm getting really excited to start, but I just want to have an idea of what I should expect!
Thanks so much!
Hello, I worked about 30 hrs per week while in the program, and I thought the program overall is very doable. the professors are there for the students, and want all of them to succeed.
Once you get into clinicals, you can expect 2 days of classes per week, and 3 days (8-9 hrs/day) at your clinical site.
While clinicals are not in session, classes usually meet 5 days per week, but some days are very short (like 9am to 1pm)
As far as outside studying, I studied before exams and did fine.
The school is a major financial commitment. I'll be in debt until 2026, b/c of 6 yrs I put into MCPHS:(
Any other q's just let me know!

I was wondering was it basically a full day time type schedule? Did you work during the evening hours?
Congratulations on graduating! Good luck with the NCLEX!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for your reply LIZH18! Do you feel that MCPHS prepared you well for the NCLEX? Have you already begun working as an RN?
Also, is the financial aid office good about helping students find scholarships/ways to fund their education. I'm having a hard time finding nursing scholarships.
Thanks again!

Hey!
I'm going to be starting the nursing program at MCPHS in jan 09. Just had a few questions...Since its still so new is there, like LIZH18 said, still a lot of confusion or is it getting better? Also are they fully accredited now? I know they had initial approval but were waiting on the next classes to graduate (or something like that). Also any suggestions on things I could look over before starting in jan-like med calculations or pharm info. I'm getting nervous about all the work and wanted to start reviewing (im not usually like that haha but want to do really well in this program). Also how did you do on the NCLEX and was it fairly easy to get a job as RN once you were out?

I wil be not working and just focus on this program. Hope you don't mind me asking how much total loans you owed until you graduated on this program.

Hello everyone! I wanted to know the stats of some people who were accepted into the MCPHS Worcester Nursing Program (fe GPA in prereqs, undergrad degree, experience, etc.) if any one minds sharing it with me. I am looking to apply next year and wanted to get a general picture of what kind of student they accept. Good Luck to everyone on their nursing adventures!
