I have a question about regarding a pt. who believes that drinking water will help him pass a urine drug screening. I know IT does not work but does anyone know how long marijuana will show up in a urine test?

Everything I have read, you can test positive up to one month.

I have a question about regarding a pt. who believes that drinking water will help him pass a urine drug screening. I know IT does not work but does anyone know how long marijuana will show up in a urine test?

I work in the lab: answer is +/= 30 DAYS.

It depends on how often they use it. If let's say they are habitual users-meaning they have been smoking marj. regulary for a lengthy time it can take longer than 30 days versus someone who smoked one night at a party and doesn't smoke it regularly, say once a year, it could be out of the system in as little as 72 hours. I got this information from an RN that works on a detox unit and also have read it in the course of study too!

Patient or nursing student, keep in mind it stays in the system for up to 30 days and now some hopitals are requiring a drug screening......even for students!

The smart thing would be not to smoke the stuff in the first place, and then the question wouldn't have to even be asked.
