LS2 Help please!

Published

hi everyone, i have been having trouble studying for ls2.... i am having trouble with the mental health/psych section of it. i feel it's just way too broad... i'm not sure what to focus on and where to put most of my energy. i have all of the books, study guide, and some nclex books but still i feel like i am struggling. should i narrow down on the study materials-?? im hoping to take the practice exam in one week and the second part before my exam. i want to take my exam in two weeks so that i can move on to ls3 and then fcca but i feel stuck... please help!! thank you

I'm studying for LS2 right now as well. I have taken the first practice exam, and I got a 60. I test on Friday. I feel the psych is also broad/vague as well- there is a lot of info. My advice is to use your content outline- for each mental disorder know the basic definition, clinical manifestations (pt's signs/symptoms) what the interventions would be for each and the nursing diagnosis for each disorder. Know the psych meds and therapeutic serum level- Lithium- particularly. Know the negative/positive symptoms of schizo- and the difference between psychotropic and atypical meds and how long it takes to reach peak effect. Also keep in mind with psych that pt. safety is always the RN priority diagnosis. I hope this helps- Good Luck!!!

Oh- one more thing- use your practice tests to supplement your notes- whatever you get wrong- know why you got it wrong-it has always helped me and I got an A on Repro and LS1....

I tried to study multiple times and was having difficulty focusing, I rescheduled the test twice and finally, with minimal study into it, I just went and took the test. I passed, only with a C, but at least I don't have to retake it. Also, it sometimes seems like I study for months and only pull a B or a C, so I am just glad I passed. Good Luck!!

Thank you both! I'm just going to schedule it and use the study guide to guide me so I can move on! :)

Good luck with your studying! I'm scheduled to take ls2 on the 18th. Took LS1 & LS3, transitions, health safety already. Im don't like mental health too much, but ready to finish it and move on to the next! Good luck and keep us posted!

The exam I felt was more difficult than LS1 mostly because there were alot of "select all that apply"... But definitely do-able!! I used diff materials to study with but the practice exams def helped and so did doing nclex style questions on the specific topics, with saunders or mosby. Do as many practice questions as you can! Good luck!
