I am a second semester nursing student (RN) and i am interested in taking the exam to become an lpn in the meantime before graduation. does anyone know of testing center information in the new york city area? HELP!

You better hurry and take the test!....my understanding is NY state board of nursing is changing their stance on RN students taking the test before completely school effective Jan07....it will no longer be allowed...check with your instructor to be sure but I am almost certain this is definite..good-luck

Are you serious??? That is horrible. Many look forward to becoming LPNs until they complete their RN courses for experience and money. Also, there are the students that drop out of the program and at least have the option to take the LPN. Where did you find this information? I HAVE to pass this on to my RN student friends!!

I just thought of this...in most cases, they will not let RN students take the LPN exam until they complete women's health and pediatrics. That MAY be a problem if this is true if you are a second semester RN student just completing med-surg.

There are actually many more job opportunities available as an RN student, then with the LPN license in most areas. you can find some excellent preceptorships available to you, and I would recommend those first.

Remember that even if you get the LPN license, you are still going to need to complete a full-time orientation and how are you going to do that with school?
