I think it depends on what state you are in, but for the most part, from what I understand, if you have a felony on your record, you can go to nursing school, but will not be allowed to take the boards.

thanks

I think it is best to check with your own state's rules and regulations. I met a nurse in Wyoming many years ago who told me she killed her husband and went to prison. She became an RN after she killed her husband and is working as a nurse in Wyoming.

ok thank you

Best advice is to check with the state Board of nursing (http://www.ncsbn.com). Texas does not allow felons to be licensed.

You would need to contact the Wisconsin Board for their opinion. That is a touchy issue and every case is evaluated on its own.

I have a friend who made many mistakes in his life when he was in his 20's. In his 40's he went to nursing school and made exceptial grades and passed and graduated. He had discussed his past with all involved. After many discussions with the nursing board he achieved his liscense. The sad thing is... no one will hire him. Him and I have discussed this and the outcome will always be the same. No one will hire you, even if you have the right credentials, if you have a negative background.
