Depends where your area of practice will be. If you are going to work in a Hospital, you need to be an RN, most LPN's are being phased out. Even RN's need to have a BSN to work in most areas. If you are planning to work in a Long term care facility, you can get decent pay as an LPN.

If you are aiming to work at an LTC, LPN is a great way to do it. You'll make a steady and decent check. It would be a great way to see if you are interested in going farther before you spend the money and time to become an RN.
My own story:
I'm currently a CNA starting the LPN program. I used the logic I just stated. I want to see that this career is absolutely for me. If I wish to expand my education, the experiences I gain as an LPN will help with the RN program and securing a job.
It's definitely not a waste of time and money.
Best of Luck!

LPN is never a waste of time. Keep in mind that if you complete your LPN you can complete the RN online.

Not a waste of time I did LVN and pay is good it pays off bills. i'm planning to going for my RN this or next year when my child is a little older. i don't regret going for my LVN, i was actually going for RN first but the waiting list was to much for me and i needed to pay off bills, so i decided LVN. You can do anything you want to do! i love my job now, but i do want to expand my knowledge and be able to do more.

I am a LPN if I can go back and give myself advice it would be to go for RN but ONLY because as soon as I graduated with my LPN suddenly all of the LPN-RN bridges disappeared in my area. The closest one is 1.5hrs away which I wish I could do but that isn't realistic for me. I am looking into a LPN-BSN but they are quite costly.

ðŸ‘ðŸ‘👠I agree. I did lvn to pay the bills. The bridge programs in my area have waiting list years long. My state has only a few lvn-bsn programs but they only have a small hand full of seats every year.

Don't do nursing just for "extra dollars"
