  1. Yes I can see why you became bored after one year of cardiac. The same cardiac assessments, the same cardiac drugs, ECGs and telemetry for almost all the patience. When patience drop like flies it is no longer a shock because you have been around the block a few times were that is concerned and you know exactly what to do and all the documentation that goes along with it. Yeah I would say it is definitely time to move on.
  2. My reason for wanting to bridge from a LPN to a RN is simple. I want to be free to give full care to my patience. For example, I completed the LPN I.V. Phlebotomy course and I have never used my I.V. skills because everywhere I have worked the policy is that LPNs do not practice IV insertion or maintenance of a IV. This means that I have to go and get a RN and wait for him/her to complete the IV and I have to make sure they sign for the IV. Same thing for narcotics. The RNs get upset sometimes and give attitude but it is not my fault it is policy. I am tired of all of this and I need my freedom to work anywhere. I am a very capable person and I can do a lot more then I am allowed to do. I went to school for two full years and I don't use half of what I was taught to do. So far Athabasca is going well. I officially start Feb 01, 2014. I am looking forward to completing all of the courses.
  3. Have you found a job yet? I really liked Hamiliton and I wanted to live and work there. I applied to so meny jobs at all the hospitals but no one called me back.
  4. This is why I moved from the GTA and I now live in the Yukon. I was sick and tired of all of the nonsense. I graduated in 2008 from the LPN program and I could not find a job. when I did find a job the wages was very low. I was always broke after paying my car insurance and rent. I am now pursing my RN and I have no planes of returning to Ontario. I need to work and make a living not live from pay cheque to pay cheque and wondering if I have a job because the government is always changing things. There will always be a need for RN's they can try and cut back on RN's but they will always be the highest form of nursing. I have no regrets becoming a LPN.
  5. Yes I do live in the north. I am moving to Yukon Whitehorse next week. It does not matter if you are a LPN or RN there is plenty of work for both.
  6. If you need a job or are tired of the low wages that you have been receiving I stingily suggest looking into the North. There is plenty of jobs, the wages are higher, and the pace of life is a lot slower. It is a different way of life some people love it and others cannot stand it. IF you do not like small towns and small communities look into Yukon Whitehorse.
  7. Have you not heard they saying "nurses eat there young" it is true and will always be true. I too am a LPN and working on my RN. In your situation you should not have given any value to her bad attitude and comments. You should let her know that if you are not qualified to take care of her family member and she is qualified then why doesn't she take care of her family member herself? You need to address the attitude and not give her all of your education qualifications. You do not answer to her when it comes to your education. You were hired to do a job. Be assertive and direct but not rude this will get her off your back.
  8. You might need to go outside of Ontario. If you are considering the LPN program there is one in the Yukon, Whitehorse. There is also a RN program in Yellowknife Northwest territories. The tuition for both is around $1400.00 per year. Housing is available. keep in mind that they RN program is not the greatest in Yellowknife but the LPN program is a good program in the Yukon. Hope this helps.
  9. I know exactly what you are going through living in Toronto that is why I am not living there anymore. I know that moving is not fun but have you thought about moving to the north like the Yukon, Whitehorse? There are more nursing jobs then they know what to do with in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut Territories and Yukon Territory. Nunavut is not a easy place to live and coming from Toronto Yellowknife which is in the Northwest territories is quiet small. The Yukon Whitehorse is the best place to live out of all three but there is a six dollar an hour difference between the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Nunavut pays the most but like I said it is a harsh place to live thats why they load nurses up with money so they will stay or keep coming back. Something to think about.
  10. LPN is never a waste of time. Keep in mind that if you complete your LPN you can complete the RN online.
  11. You really need to say something. When the manager asked you how you felt about her you basically lied and made no comment. You knew what your thoughts were about her when the new manager asked you what you thought about that nurse. The reason she asked you is because the manager has her own thoughts about her and she may be looking for confirmation on these thoughts but she will not tell you that. Speaking up is not a bad thing and you are not a bad person if you speak up. Reverse the situation if you were the nurse playing candy crush during working hours, that same nurse would not hesitate to tell you what she thought about your actions and she would definitely report you. You need to do the same.
  12. I do not understand why you cannot finish at the school you are presently in. Please explain. You can check out Yukon, Whitehorse College they have a LPN program. The class sizes are small.
  13. Give yourself time to recover and start studying again. This time do not tell anyone when you are going to take the test again and quietly go and take the exam. I am a LPN and I went back to school to become a RN. My family was so proud of me and they started to tell others that I was pursuing more nursing education it turns out that things did not go well at all and I am no longer in school. I am now going to pursue my RN online. When you do things quietly there is no expectation from others, there is no disappointment and there is a sense of calm in your spirit. This time focus on studying, have a positive perspective, do all the things you did not do like eat breakfast and you will pass. Be encouraged you can and will do this.
