Does anyone here have any experience or info about LPN to RN online courses? I'm wondering what the average cost/time involved is.

Many LPNs have earned their RN license via a distance learning program offered by Excelsior College.

You should check into the RUE program. Just google search it. They have from LPN through RN master. It not online but it is home study and it is approved by the NLN.

Excelsior is good, but you don't have to join with the costs until you are done with the nursing concepts 2. Online at ebay.com you can buy (i'm doing this) the nc1 and nc2 i saw from the college network, 20$ each, and i would have payed 400$ each, and rue, istudysmart.com, and college network and chancellors(which i hear are great) are all companies that sell the books that transfer to the online excelsior program. I just am not sure i have the discipline involved in studying online, althought i completed all RN courses (except actually nursing ones) at a community college and found i'd have to wait another 6 months to start them! Hope this helps, also yahoogroups have tons of nursing groups. Some are excelsiorRNstudygroup, and freehelpexcelsiorstudents...the list goes on..good luck!

How does everyone feel about the quality of these educations though. I'm not criticizing, because I'm open to the option when I complete LPN school due to family/work stresses. But I'm just curious more than anything. Did anyone set out to take their RN NCLEX and find themselves ill prepared?
Thanks for the input.

The program covered all the content one would find in a traditional program. The clinical portion is what is different. Excelsior is for those LPN's who have work experience outside of their LPN program. If you do not have clinical work experience you will indeed find yourself lacking. I had 10 years of LPN experience prior to graduating from Excelsior. I have been working as a RN for over a year now on an ICU floor. I can't imagine being sucessful on the job without clinical experience...EC clinical is 2.5 days...not enough time time for someone without much experience. The program is quality. I passed NCLEX first try with 75 questions.
