LPN who failed RN math

I know it sounds silly of me to say but dont beat yourself up! I had to retake a math class three times and I finally said I WILL BEAT THIS! I honestly hate math but I just sucked it up and passed the class with an A! You can do it

Your not "just" anything. You advice is very valuable.

I agree with the above poster, try not to beat yourself up & take it again if you're able. My husband is an engineer, and he's VERY good at math. However, he told me he failed calculus 3 times in college before finally passing it! He passed with a "C" & put it behind him! You can pass too.... get up, dust yourself off, & try again.

This is my experience with college algebra: I put it off, stalled, and dropped it for more years than I can count. My community college professor told me that it may not be time for me to pass it yet. So, I dropped his class, registered for the summer semester algebra and when I made the lowest grade in the class on the first exam, guess what? I dropped it again. But this time, I pulled out of the college, went to another college online, got my RN and 4 months after that, I passed College Algebra with a B....when it was my time at yet another online college. Now, I just finished my first week in Statistics online with an average of 95.42%.

If it is an option for you, put it off and complete some other classes that you are strong at and take the math when you have no other choice. By then you should be even more determined to get through it since it will be standing alone between you and your goal. Just a suggestion. In today's world, it is so easy for a non-math person, especially a nurse, to fail math because everything comes to us pre-calculated. So definitely do not think that you are out here by yourself. Because of modern technology, there are so many colleges that do not require math for an associate degree but I think they are all online, which may or may not cause you additional grief with your state's board of nursing. I'm from Georgia so I had to fight that particular battle but I didn't mind because I hadn't seen a good scrap in a while. LOL! Keep your chin up and do it when it's your time, not theirs....you'll be happier.

i have an lvn license and i am in my 3rd semester of rn school. plz dont gv up. i suck horribly at math and was petrified of it. in ns u will be tested on ur math skills, there is no way around it. study and learn from someone who can teach u in a basic way. i did and now im not petrified of math anymore. now its rewarding to pass it the first time around. study with a small group who can show u how they do it. if u want it bad enough u will make it happen and i know u will.

Thank you very one for your support. I've just been devistated after that, and then learned that I have to withdrawl from the college since I'm only scheduled for nursing classes. I really wish the math was a pre-req type thing so that its not this bad for people who aren't able to make it. I'm going Tuesday to withdrawl and to ask why the practice problems given were so easy compared to the difficulty of the test. I never thought I'd be so sick to my stomach with an 80% but I do plan on finding out how to try to re-apply next year or to try another school.

I'm beginning to believe this particular school is out for blood and my sanity. Not only have I relapsed into major depression and anxiety so badly after non being allowed through, due to the fact this was my chance of 9 months of school to become and RN and become financially stable, but now they're requiring I pay half of my tuition which is nearly $700.00 since I attended one week of class. They really should have had this as a pre-req instead of try to financially ruin people. I don't have the money, I work only PRN and am about to lose my job due to the fact that I'm not safe to practice as an LPN due to my depression. I'm lost.

I am a cna about to graduate with a degree in sociology in december. I spent 2 years studying something that is just not my passion. I have always loved health care and it's my dream to one day work in an environment with medical perfessionals, however I can't deny nursing school scare me to death and for reasons like your speaking about.

I have until november to decide if I want to start taking my A&P classes or just finishes up my associate in medical administration and maybe go back to get a masters in public health administration. I'm already in debt from my BA degree and really can't afford more school, but I'm looking now ready to walk accross the stage to what? Thats scary to. Hope everything work it's way out.

by the way your at least an LPN, that was a success! How do you think LPN school was? I was going to try for the RN, but if turned down apply for the LPN. Did you work while you were in school? How did you succeede in that program. Was the math easier?

LPN school was stressful but I still enjoyed it. I felt though that it gave me false hope. I LOVED clinicals of viewing and assisting in different settings. However when it came time for me to get a job all I could find was nursing home. There I was just to give meds....not what I went to school for. I lost about half my skills. I feel like I learned a lot of skills to do more than become a pill pusher. I also feel that sometimes LPN's get looked down upon my RN's. I Loved school, but LPN career is not what I thought it would be. Its why I was attempting and putting forth a full effort to become an RN to advance, stop being the underdog, and help patients more. Math was basic medical math, thats what my RN math supposed to be as well. Like determining how many pills per order, IV drip calculations, and Injections.
