lost application

Published

So, I've had the ultimate horror happen to me this week.

I had applied for the traditional nursing program earlier this year, though my points were not really up there for it, but it was sort of an "eh, might as well." They sent a letter shortly thereafter to say they got my application and to tell me how they tallied my points. Did not get in, which I knew I wouldn't. I turned in my application for the accelerated program, which I had an excellent shot of being admitted to, and which I really wanted anyway. It was due June 1, and I hadn't received a similar letter, so I called today. She said they don't send out letters for teh accelerated to say they got the application...but she did some digging and can't even find my application! They found the traditional, but not the accelerated.

I asked if I could turn one in again now, because I had turned one in back in May, ahead of the deadline, and they had all my important info from the traditional application on file still. But her boss doesn't get back until next WEDNESDAY to make that decision!

I got off the phone and just started crying.

ouch! that has to be stressful. if you kept a copy of your application, that might help "prove" that you had filled it out & submitted it.

rather than waiting until next wed, you might consider filling out a new application and hand delivering it tomorrow along with a cover letter:

"dear ms accelerated program director goddess.....apparently my application submitted via usps first class mail on 5/13/09 was lost somewhere in the mail system...your school received my traditional program application, but in following up with your assistant cruella quasimodo today, your office apparently did not receive my application to your most holy wonderful earth shattering grovelgrovel accelerated program. this news is heartbreaking, since i truly want to attend your accelerated program, and given my background (see attached), i think you'd agree that i am a strong candidate. while i realize that the original application deadline was 6/1/09, i hope that you will be willing to accept another copy of the application i had originally submitted to your office on 5/13/09. should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at blahblahblah grovelgrovelgrovel..."

don't wait like a "nice quiet little student." be slightly pushy, yet polite. don't ask "mother may i turn in another application." turn another one in (with the cover letter). the worst that can happen is that they throw it away. the best that could happen is that you get into the carefree, relaxing (ok, maybe not!) accelerated program.

good luck!!

:yeahthat: don't really have anything to add, i think cruffler summed it up nicely!

I'm a proponent of the "certified mail, return receipt requested" service offered by the post office. I use it for everything that is important. An acquaintance of mine wondered why she wasn't hearing anything back on one of her nursing school applications. She went to the office in person. They found her folder, opened it up, and found the "missing" transcript sitting on top of the contents, unopened, in the envelope it came in. They refused to reconsider her application and she was fit to be tied.

Oh, man. That's awful. :uhoh21:

I hope this is fixable.

Well, I did as suggested, but they refused to take another application. They called me the next day and said, "When an application is turned in, the first thing that happens is that it gets entered into our online system. Yours is not there."

Basically...they accused me of not turning it in and it ends there.

Resolution: I am transferring to a different school and reapplying next year.

Sidenote: the original application was delivered IN PERSON...and they still lost it.

next time get a receipt.....i know this may seem extreme, but you now can see why you might want to do that!

and make sure that anyother students that you know that may be applying do the same
