Lies of the ER.....

Published

What are some of the funniest, scariest, or weird lies youve heard patients come in the ER with??? I was just wondering what type of crazy stories you guys and gals come across before you find out the TRUTH.... LOL THANKS :yeah:

6 week old baby and apparently a "tire rim" fell on her. Never did get the real story and wanted to smack the mom when she was walking holding her baby wtih one hand with no support of the head and texting with the other hand not paying any attention to anything. Allegedly the baby was in the car seat next to a stack of rims and one fell on her. Thank god for the car seat. Still can't figure out how a rim just fell off unless it was obviously not centered on the one under it. They are pretty heavy.

Omg was the baby ok??? And what happened to the poor excuse for a mother????

Baby was fine, seemed like it was carelessness of the parents not abuse. Thankfully the car seat took the brunt of it and the baby was so small that it wasn't over the car seat at all or close. Had a bump on the head. Not sure exactly what happened and what the real story was, but the mom was crying her eyes out over the whole thing when the doc came in. She was very young. Unfortunately as a student and I was only in the ER because census was low on peds, so I never got to find out more.

Also another time a lady came in having a really bad asthma attack. I could not believe the amount of narcotics she was on. In the 100's of mg's QID various ones. I used to have it written down but it was like 160 mg of percocet QID then Oxycoton in the 100's of Mg's, then she also smoked pot PRN. The woman has severe pulmonary issues. It was crazy. Once she found out they wanted to admit her and she would not be getting the same amount of drugs she checked herself out AMA and her breathing wasn't even stabilized yet.

Omg I can not wait to start program so that I can experience some of these things... I got curious when I went to the ER with my Grandmother lastnight and a couple came in with a baby born at 4 months gestation they were more scared than anything the baby was really small and looked very weird the nurse came and got the baby but left the parents in the waiting room her stories as to why she didnt come to the ER when she first started contracting was that she never felt any pain or pressure she just went to the bathroom and her still born baby fell out!!!! And im like omg I would be crying my eyes out but she wasnt even crying and it made me wonder if she was lieing or not it scared me!!!

I didn't get a lot of time in the ER. It wasn't a part of our regular rotation. I only got a couple days. I really enjoyed my time there and it's an area I would like to experience. My first job I got is in Peds, I will go to ER to do procedures on kids, but that's it. I will do good in Peds and as a new grad there is no room to be picky, but down the road I might try to get in. Unless I end up loving where I am at and don't want to leave.

Could be possible Cari_Turner also she may have been in shock at the moment. People react to grief differently.

Congrats new Grad!!! I hope you get in ER!!!! Cogath omg really??? That explains why they were more scared than sad... Poor thing this really makes me want to be a nurse even more... I cant wait to get where you guys are!!!! Im so jealous lol....

BE careful what you wish for- either you are going to be a great nurse with an open mind and a compassionate soul or you are totaly nuts to want to deal with the squirl balls that plague our ERs.

My favorite story from ER- and one that is so common in our ER- is the poor guy who, while naked, "accidently" sat on his wifes' hairbrush, vibator, a lightbulb, various veggies..... and the next thing you know it was lost in his colon. I hate it when that happens!

Suanna I really really really want to be a nurse I have a heart and passion for it it wasrms my soul!!!!! And as far as the hubby I would have been killing myself laughing to myself "poor men" lol.... I love hearing you guys stories its amazing what nurses have to go through and the stories they come home with ONE WORD AMAZING!!!!!!

hahahahhaha When I worked as a clerk at the hospital I was walking down the hall while they were taking this man down to endoscopy while his male friend was running alongside screaming "i'm sorry, I'm sorry" and then I got his x-ray and there was the infamous gigantic potatoe he "sat on.":uhoh3:
