Letters of recommendation

as a new grad applying for positions that require references...

[color=dimgray]do you ask your references to write you one letter of recommendation that you can use with all of your applications or a specific one for each facility?

i have a handful of places i plan to send my resume already and i am sure others will come up. it seems like a lot to ask a person to keep writing letters for you so i was wondering if it is common to have them write one really good "to whom it may concern" letter that can be used with all the applications?

I have several letters of recomendations from former employers that I've collected over my nursing career, and they all discuss my achievements and abilities. They are never addressed to a particular facility or job.

On the other hand, some references have never written letters of recommendation b/c these are people that know me personaly outside of my job/career. So it's important to have letters from both, if possible!:typing Good Luck!!!:) Also, I supply the LOR & references on request!!

Ive recently wondered about this as well..interested to see what comes up

I'm a clin. instructor who does get asked to write recommendations and what I do is one letter "To Whom it May Concern" that I try to give my best shot at. Then I make 5 or 6 copies and hand sign each one, and invite the recipient to contact me for more information. They can be used by the applicant for any job. This seems to work better as applicants often need a recommendation later on, for a different recipient, and this way, they would have one!
