Well, I just got let go from my main job. It was'nt a super big surprise as there have been postings of budget cuts and another nurse got her hours cut. And because I have the least seniority on my shift I was let go. They said it was'nt because of performance, but I was on probation from my yearly review. I had been doing better, but guess it was a little late. It just took my awhile to have everything come together. I have a couple weeks pay coming, but I had alredy been hurting due to not getting enough hours. Not sure what to do now. I've been applying for jobs the past couple weeks, but no bites yet. I do work at a nursing home every other saturday, maybe I could see if I could get more hours there. Problem is its a pretty good drive. Maybe its a blessing in discuise as I often did get really stressed at the jail. Maybe I can finally put my student loans in forebearance, since I'm sure I don't make enough now, but part of it still will accumulate interest. I just need to get some income coming in fast or I may have to sell the house...

I know gas is expensive but if the nursing home has extra hours it might be a blessing right now. Wishing you good luck with your job hunt.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I was going to call the nursing home tomorrow to see if they have extra hours. They should since a nurse quit a couple weeks ago. I heard they hired a new one, but she quit and got a full-time job at the jail where I worked, replacing a girl that just quit and probably me too. I filled out an app at a nearby NH today too in which I did some of my clinicals a couple years ago. Plus there is a career fair tomorrow at the community college. I'm going to get a hair cut in the morning, but not sure if I should dress up for the fair or just put on some decent scrubs? btw its weird, this is the first time I got fired that I did'nt get really upset, maybe it has'nt hit me yet or maybe its because I was really getting burnt out there already and wanted out anyway...
Sounds like it might have been an ok thing? :) Personally I have always dressed up for interviews and also job fairs if I was seriously looking. I know scrubs are wonderful and widely accepted but wearing a nice suit like the interviewer is likely to be wearing looks professional and might make you stand out more, jmo. Fingers crossed and please keep us posted!

You should wear a suit to the job fair and make sure you take copies of your resume and your job info. Just be prepared with an answer about why you aren't with the main employer and try to have a positive attitude. Good luck.

I am sorry to hear that you were let go. I'd dress up as if I were going to an interview in case a prospect comes up. And, for sure, I'd ask for more days or further consideration at the nursing home until things clear up. Good luck!

i'm sorry to hear that you were let go. it does sound like it may have been a blessing. i know that doesn't help much, but perhaps you can get full time hours at the nh or something else. i would wear something nice to the job fair, never know, you may get an interview while there. i will keep you in my thoughts and keep my fingers crossed for you, that all turns out well!
good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement. I applied to about 3 places at the job fair, all were either part-time or contingency, 2 others said they were not hiring now, so I did'nt apply to those yet. I have'nt heard anything yet for those or the one I applied to near my home or the various internet ones I applied to. Do you guys think its a good idea to call back the ones I think I'm interested in like the one close to my home or the one on the internet that states it pays very good, but its about an hour drive away? Do you think I should give it a few more days?
btw, I applied for unemployment yesterday per my mom's suggestion. I did'nt even think about applying before that. But they sent a statement wanting to know about my part-time job. I was going to put down that I work every other Saturday, which was true, but the NH just called and said they have openings on 3rd shift next week-3 days and then 2 days the next week. I thought I better accept them and see how it goes as I never worked 3rd there before. Maybe if it works out I can ask about full-time. Problem is that job is about a 35 minute drive. I guess thats not super bad though as gas is'nt too high right now. I'm not sure what I should put down for the unemployment form though. Should I just put down the every other Sat. for now and change it later or put down what I know and go from there. I'm not sure how unemployment works. I'm not sure if they ask how much you work every week or not?
