Hey guys! I'm applying for Jan 2017. I was taking "booster" courses in hopes of getting in with old admission requirements. But now that the 2 university transfer courses are eliminated, I'm really worried Do you guys think the competition will be more fierce with the new admission requirements? (2 eng, 2 bio, stats) Could someone please share what they're applying with? I don't have any A's and it's very likely I may need to look towards a new career path. Honestly, I think the reason they got rid of the 2 transfer courses is because before people could get in with C+ in biology and stats with the help of A+ in booster courses. Now it's more about having good marks in all the courses that are relevant to the nursing program.

Im applying for Jan 2017 as well. Im finishing up my degree at SFU while taking pre-reqs at Douglas then applying for Langara. Douglas changed their pre-reqs recently so I might be applying for both schools, but I am still hoping to get into douglas as they made the pathos courses into the pre-req so the rest of the curriculum is only 6 more terms. Ill have at least a 3.0-3.2 GPA plus a bachelors so I'm hoping its enough. I was glad Langara made it more competitive since people cannot go through the easy way of taking GPA boosters courses. Im assuming it might be less competitive now since it is even harder to get into BOTH biology courses and the GPA booster courses are taken away

Which term are you applying for at Douglas? I finished the academic foundations of nursing in the spring 2015 and am #1 on waitlist for sept so hopefully getting in for January 2017 if I don't get off the waitlist. I have heard so many people are applying.
Im finishing off the Douglas pre req by end of Aug, hopefully but I will be done Langaras prereq by April. Not sure when the deadline is for Douglas winter 2017, but Ill most likely be applying for the Fall 2017 at Douglas
ohh okay, best of luck to you :)

Hi everyone! Ill be applying for the January 2017 intake. To be honest when I heard that they were changing the requirements I was really upset because I thought it would make it harder. But I think its a little more realistic now. The electives could be something completely unrelated to Nursing that would boost your GPA. I think this is a smart way to weed out candidates that will be more successful. Im not sure if you guys are following the September 2017 intake, but its insane. People are on the wait list with 3.8 GPAs. I really really hope that the next intake won't be like that.

I'm hoping a GPA of 3.33 is enough. I applied to Fall 2016 with a 3.4, but I'm almost sure that I won't be getting in with the 3.8 initial cut off. With new more electives, my GPA is down to 3.33 now

Hey, i think now that they've taken out two electives, the gpa cut off will be lower since those electives probably boosted marks. Best of luck.
Hi @Kayyyy,
I am applying for Jan 2017 intake as well. Can you share your gpa please? mine is 3.67

Hi Phannee. Good job on your GPA considering the change they made on the prerequisites. I'm currently struggling with my English classes right now. I'm afraid I'm getting a C+ for both English;however, Im doing pretty Ok on both Bio and Stats. I hope the cut off wouldn't be as high as the previous years. Did you apply for January semester yet? Can anyone share their GPA for the new prerequisites? Thanks.....

I think that the GPA cutoff will definitely be lower for future intakes just because they have taken out the university-transferable electives, which people almost always use to boost their GPA. I have completed both English courses and the Statistics course and have a 3.8 GPA from those three, but I am hoping that I can get an A or A+ in both the A&P courses to bring it up!
Right now my GPA is around 3.6, I have one class left to do.
