Congrats! What was your GPA if you don't mind me asking?

Langara Fall 2016 Intake
Congrats!! Did you have a previous degree as well?

Langara Jan 2017
I encourage you to take the remaining prerequisites in one semester. When you get into nursing school, you will be taking many difficult courses in one semester so you should learn to be able to handle the workload of English, A&P, and Stats altogether.

BCIT - pre-requisites
They only look at your GPA from the prerequisites in determining whether or not you will be shortlisted. If you have an unsatisfactory transcript from the past, you are allowed to submit a letter of explanation for your performance and still be considered for admission. However, you will not be shortlisted if your GPA for the prerequisites is not competitive enough.

Langara Jan 2017
I think that the GPA cutoff will definitely be lower for future intakes just because they have taken out the university-transferable electives, which people almost always use to boost their GPA. I have completed both English courses and the Statistics course and have a 3.8 GPA from those three, but I am hoping that I can get an A or A+ in both the A&P courses to bring it up!

Langara Fall 2016!
My reaction right now... 3.73 is already an amazing GPA...

Langara Fall 2016!
Wow, the GPA cutoff this year is like no other year. I haven't even done an application (hoping to start in 2017) and I'm already nervous!

Langara Change in Entry Admissions Requirements
I agree with bigblondebun, you should be careful with who teaches the different sections of a course. I'm currently doing STAT 1124. My prof is super easy. The midterm was exactly like the homework we were given as well as the quizzes. On the other hand, my friend is doing STAT 1124 with another professor and the difficulty level is much higher for whatever reason. Make sure to research your prof before registering for a section.

Langara Change in Entry Admissions Requirements
Wow, that's actually terrible that they don't accept your completed anatomy courses especially when other institutions do. Langara was definitely my first choice but now I am also looking at out-of-province programs. Hopefully you find better luck at other schools!

Langara Change in Entry Admissions Requirements
It truly isn't fair. I have yet to begin the first anatomy course. So far I am taking stats, and two electives that are not needed anymore. Since I have credit for ENGL 1127, I could have been taking 1129 this term! Instead, I'm taking online intro psychology and sociology. Have you started your anatomy courses, Kay?

Langara Change in Entry Admissions Requirements
I can understand these changes since I've always known you would have to take them as part of the nursing program anyway. The only thing I am concerned about is how we were not informed of these changes before registration started. I talked to a friend and she said that they were already discussing these changes in the May info session, but it was not a solid decision at that time. In all honesty, I have no problem with doing these two courses before applying for the nursing program, but I have a problem with the late notice and how I could be taking at least one of them, if not both, instead of two unnecessary electives.

Langara Change in Entry Admissions Requirements
I mean I know that I would have to take the second A&P in the nursing program anyway, but it's true what Kay said - getting into both courses is almost impossible to do in ideally two terms, since the courses are so popular. I have e-mailed other institutions but they all have replied back to me with the same 'our anatomy and physiology courses are almost always full' response.

Langara Change in Entry Admissions Requirements
The advisor finally replied me. I had a conversation with her over the phone. I'll summarize what she said to me. She said that we (students who registered for 2 electives that no longer count) 'fall into a very unfortunate group and there is nothing that can be done about it'. She also stated that the department tried to give as much notice as possible (I'm serious, she said this) by putting on their website that "curriculums are subject to change at any time". And she said f we drop the 2 courses, it will be our financial loss. There is no refund to be given. The advisor said it was a very popular concern and although she was nice about it, I'm still pretty frustrated about it. I mean seriously, I could have been taking ENGL 1129 this semester instead of two useless courses.

Langara Change in Entry Admissions Requirements
I didn't attend the info session but I only recently saw this change on the nursing page. I am absolutely horrified by this change. Many of us who were planning to apply in 2017 are already taking two university transferable courses. We have already paid for them and even dropping it now would not give us any refund. They should have made this change for the 2018 intake. This is such late notice. The fact that we have to complete both A&P courses means that we will all have to delay our applications by a semester or two depending on the waitlists. I sent an email to the advisor in frustration and I'll see what they reply with. This isn't fair for those who are currently registered in and taking courses according to the old requirements, even if they are not applying for Fall 2016.
