Langara Fall 2017

Hi!

It's super early but I wanted to start a thread for those planning to apply to Langara for the Fall 2017 intake!

I am finishing one last prerequisite and will be applying as soon as applications open in November.

Who else is going to apply to this intake?!

You'll be ok with a 3.82.

Well, you'd better be... or else I am screwed, haha.

Aha I hope it works out for all of us, Idk how they are with ppl without degrees(me) I heard they prefer ppl with them.

Yea, if you have a degree you get bumped to the top of the acceptance list (as long as your grades in the pre-reqs meet the minimum requirements). I don't have a degree either. >.

Oh so they get accepted aslong as they have pre reqs then ?

Yes basically if degreeholders have a minimum 2.33 GPA on the prereqs, they will be accepted.

Anyone else apply?

Hey everyone,

I have also applied with a 3.73 GPA. Good luck to all of us!

Hello everyone! I'm so happy I found this thread because I've been debating if I should apply to Langara for the Fall. As the deadline is soon approaching, I'm guessing I should just put it through :)

Best of luck to all of you!

Does anyone know if they take into consideration the course load that you take as well? Considering only 5 classes are pre-reqs I would hope that plays a role.

They look only at the GPA of the 5 courses; I don't believe they take anything else into consideration besides having a degree.

Good luck!

I'm finishing up 1129 this semester. Do you think they'll let me through? I don't want to wait an entire year go by. Right now, I'm just reading all my brother's Nursing books--Patho/Pharma/Med-surg :'(

To lighten the mood here, the GPA average acceptance for the spring 2017 semester and prior was not that high (around 3.00 w/o degrees) since the program made two difficult courses (ENGL 29/30 & BIOL 1191) a requirement for the Fall 2016 intake. I've also talked to several Langara Nursing students, and they all agree that the GPA cutoff was lowered.

I do, however, think that basing candidate acceptance solely on the GPA of those five prerequisites is not a good determinant of success. But gee, it seems like applying to Nursing school is now pretty much like applying to Med school at UBC. Is it that competitive or is it just me? Do you guys also lose sleep at night because of this GPA thing?

No need to wait an entire year! Langara has two intakes - this September one as well as January.

Also a 3.00 GPA doesn't sound very high.. May I ask where you got this number? If the average was indeed that low it could be due to the fact that these new requirements were JUST implemented. The last intake was also a January intake which is normally less competitive than September intakes.

And I agree with you that to look exclusively at 5 courses based only on letter grades (not even percentage..) is rather superficial

Only a few more days until the deadline and we'll be hearing back in March/April! So nervous!
