  1. I got accepted with 3.6 on the prereqs (I died taking those english courses) and 3.86 on 40 credits. Just happy because I wouldn't know what to do for another year. I didn't, however, get any sort of email. If I or someone else will start a facebook page, I'd be glad to post some of the docs for the five courses of the 1st semester so you guys can have a feel of what it'll be like. 1st semester is mainly nursing theory (i.e., nursing fundamentals) while the second focuses more on pathophysiology/biology/pharma. All the best for everyone! (Hey, don't lose hope if you weren't accepted yet: June/July just ain't over).
  2. Congrats! Judging from last year's spring intake, I am assuming applicants without degrees will not be given acceptance until mid-July. Degree-holders come first
  3. If I don't get in, that'd be a real bummer...I bought all the textbooks smh lol
  4. I'll pray for all of you. If those high GPAs tend to discourage you, just remember that I have been waiting to get into a nursing program for three years! Yes, some of you may undergo the same long, lonely path, but I consider this a test of how much you really want to have that RN next to your name. Don't lose spirit!
  5. idk much but hopefully the number of people who applied reflects the number of comments on this thread lol
  6. Anyone heard back from them? But judging from last year's intake, applicants should start to get shortlisted around the last week of March.
  7. Hi there, I'm also planning to get into Langara by January of 2018. I'm finishing up on Engl 1129 this semester, so I can't apply for Fall 2017 yet. I totally understand the frustration of waiting; it reminds me of Bob Marley's song, "Waiting in Vain" haha (story of my life)...
  8. Yes, I heard that you are eligible to be an ESN by term 5. It's less expensive for hospitals that way compared to paying RNs in overtime (~2 x $33+/hr)
  9. Anyone applying to BCIT? If you were given an offer from both BCIT and Langara, which offer would you accept?
  10. Hi, I've applied just a month ago, and I'm very skeptical about getting in--I just don't see it happening hehe. From my experience with one of BCIT's programs, getting in is the easy part (lots of sleepless nights and lots o' reading and paperwork--LOTS). I have, however, heard of good things about their students (they're pretty competent in comparison to VCC/Douglas). Also, we pretty much have the same grades: Chem 11: 87 Pre Calc 11/12: 88 Engl: B+ A&P I: A A&P II: A Psych: B+ Health Sciences: A Statistics: A Other than that, I have 33 total post-secondary credits, worked part-time, and have volunteered at SPH and a nursing home with 300+ hrs for two years. Again, I'm very skeptical when it comes to BCIT since nearly everyone who got accepted there might as well apply for UBC Medicine lol. Because I do not have a degree, I'm doing everything I can to prep myself in case I DO get in, like mastering A&P and going over some NCLEX reviewers just to get used to the test style (DW, I can count the number of correct answers with my five fingers lol) Sorry for the novel Good Luck
  11. I'm finishing up 1129 this semester. Do you think they'll let me through? I don't want to wait an entire year go by. Right now, I'm just reading all my brother's Nursing books--Patho/Pharma/Med-surg :'( To lighten the mood here, the GPA average acceptance for the spring 2017 semester and prior was not that high (around 3.00 w/o degrees) since the program made two difficult courses (ENGL 29/30 & BIOL 1191) a requirement for the Fall 2016 intake. I've also talked to several Langara Nursing students, and they all agree that the GPA cutoff was lowered. I do, however, think that basing candidate acceptance solely on the GPA of those five prerequisites is not a good determinant of success. But gee, it seems like applying to Nursing school is now pretty much like applying to Med school at UBC. Is it that competitive or is it just me? Do you guys also lose sleep at night because of this GPA thing?
