kneeling chairs

I am having a horrible time at work with sitting at a desk moving paperwork around. My neck is killing me. I look down most of the day. I have tried everything and was thinking of getting a kneeling chair. They are around 300 for a good one and I don't want to waste my money if it will not help my problem. I doing OASIS coding, intakes and such.

I have used on - thier only BIG drawback is that they can make your feet swell more than sitting in a normal chair and of course they do not swivel. Some people love them some hate them.

Thanks for replying Gwenith. I have to tell you I have your holiday card posted on my b board in my office. I get tons of compliments about it. I tell them it is from my aussie friend. I find myself just looking at it and getting lost in it.

I bought one last night. Extremely comfortable. Very different way of sitting.

Never hear of a "kneeling chair", Ren ! What on earth IS it... do you have a pic, or could you describe it?

I believe they are chairs that lean a bit forward and have a soft bar to place your knees, correcting position a bit and stopping people from stooping or bending over their work. I remember a friend had one for his computer. He swore by it. I hated it. I guess it depends on the person. Also, how tall you are; for short people like me, it does not work.

Yes that is what they look like in the pic of the kneeling chair. I love it! I hope it helps my neck problem.

Some of the ones on the net were over 300 and I found one at Office Max that was much cheaper but very nice.

Wow! $300 for a kneeling chair?

I bought one from Target about 20 years ago for around $40, then got another one (don't remember if it was from Target, although in my research I did email them and, as I recall, got a helpful response). can't remember how much I paid for the second one--less than the first though.

I personally liked how they worked. It does put some stress on your knees, but if you move between the regular tush on the cushion and kneeling chairs, you ought to have enough variety to relieve some of the stress on your neck and back.

If your neck is hurting and you are doing a lot of paper work I would suggest you use a angle board to bring your paper work closer to you. This will permit you bring your head back over your shoulder and reduce the static muscle load on your neck and shoulders. Here is some more information on ergonomics that will help.

It may not be the chair as much as the height of desk and chair that are adding to your problems. Take a closer look a where paper work is placed.
