***KAPLAN***

Published

hello all,

just wanted to know if all the urban legends about kaplan have any truth to them. i have heard that those that take it pass the 1st try, & usually w/ 75q. but those that have taken the nclex centuries ago seem to think it doesn't make a difference. so i've come to ask those that used/ know anyone that has used it did u pass/ fail and do u think it was because of kaplan. anyone know kaplans nclex pass rate? it's very expensive, pretty much an investment. at this point i have worked and sacrificed so much i think it may be something to invest in.

thanks in advance :p

I used Kaplan and passed with 75 questions, but I don't believe it had to do with Kaplan entirely. I mostly used the Saunders Comprehensive and Q&A books.

To me, Kaplan did not provide any sort of content review at all. If you can, just borrow Kaplan's book from somebody and go over Kaplan's decision tree. It will help you weed out choices and make most questions have 2 possible answers.

I answered most of the questions in Saunders and their rationales are great. They explain why the answer is correct and why the others are wrong and give you extra information about the other answers as well. The only thing I used from Kaplan was the decision tree and the Qbank.

hurst review better than Kaplan in my point of view, you can use Kaplan to practice some questions, but you need to use hurst review to understand the content. Knowing the content is the key to pass the exam. priorityzation book by Linda A. Lacharity is also better one.

thanks for the tips. i have saunders & swear by it, i use it for my exams. now my question is what is the decision tree and where could i get it? also what exactly is the hurst review, is it a class/ book? :)

hurst review is online class. or it have live class (you can check it online to see if there have live class in your local area. they set up live class locally from time to time depend on how many student take it.)

hurst review can help you memory difficult content in a easy way, and i do think marlene, born with the talent.

marlene hurst received her master of science in nursing in 1988 from mississippi university for women, and started hurst review services that very same year. marlene is also an adult and family nurse practitioner-r, a certified critical care nurse and an advanced cardiac life support instructor.

with her background, she knows everything about nursing content, and she is able to help you understand it.

but you still have to scan saunders book for the weakness part.

Any review course or resource is only as good as the effort put into studying and learning the material.

Hurst Review is a class/online series which is a review of of gerneral content that you should have learned in nursing school. Just google Hurstreview and you should get all the information you need. The Kaplan decision tree is a way of answering questions that has been formulated by Kaplan. It incorporated Maslow, assessment vs implementation...stuff like tht. I think Saunders has a test taking section in the begining of the book and that is abt the same as the decision tree.
