Is Kaplan Review Course Worth It?

I failed my NCLEX exam and need a solid study program to pass next time. I have heard Suzanne's plan is good but not sure about it. I heard that Kaplan guarantees you pass but the program is $450. Is it worth it?

I did kaplan and failed...I am not blaming them, but I think you need to get a good book and review it in it's entirety in addition to kaplan..I just did kaplan and it did not work for me.They do teach good strategies on how to answer the questions. But I did have two friend who also just did Kaplan and passed on the first go...

So did they give you a refund after you failed using it? Do you think Suzanne's plan would be a better way to go?

yes, I am working with them as we speaking on giving me the refund...I decided not to use the qbank again because, there is also a kaplan test taking strategies book for about 30 dollars and the book also has a CD with a pretest and I think a post test.. I brought it but have not gone through it yet, because I am doing suzanne's plan, so why pay 400 for the something. I am now doing Suzannes plan and plan to go on the NCLEX website..they also have a qbank for much less and you can pay for 3weeks for about 150.00...I am not pitting down kaplan, I just think, that alone is not enough, you have to pick a good book and stick with in in addition to Kaplan...Saunders is getting good reviews.

Yeah the Kaplan program seemed a bit steep and it sounds like Suzanne's plan is good. I already have the Saunders book so maybe that's what I'll do.

I am currently taking the Kaplan course (classroom based) as a requirement for my ADN program. They teach you the "Kaplan strategy" to answering questions the entire 3 and a half hour class is spent applying the strategy to the questions. However, there are many, many, many questions that the strategies don't apply to. I have always done quite well in school, so I don't feel that the instruction was necessary. Along with the class room training we also have access to the qbank (1000 questions) and 7 NCLEX type exams to take. Personally, I like the Saunders book and have used it through the nursing program and especially on HESI tests and have scored in the 95th percentile on the exams.

I personally would not have payed for the class. However, if you have problems with NCLEX style tests then maybe it would be worth it.

Our instructors say that although we do not appreciate it at the time we end up being grateful we took it. I have heard the Kaplan's questions are the most like real NCLEX questions.

i didn't use kaplan.

i think it costs a lot of money and you still don't know if you will pass. saunders book is a good book to use for a review. i also recomend www.learningext.com (3 weeks-49$).

I took Kaplan as part of my nursing program and failed 2X after that. I'm sure it had more to do with me then them but all the same, I didn't pass. After searching the web for something that could help, I enrolled in the Ready To Pass online review course (www.readytopass.com) and I PASSED!! It worked for me, who knows....maybe it could work for you too!! Good luck!

Damn you are really pimpin that course. I think I may stick with Suzanne's plan this time around and if I fail again then I may get desperate enough to shell out cash for courses like this or Kaplan.

Pimpin? Just trying to help out. I haven't tried Suzanne's plan but I hear good things. Good luck to you.

Thanks brother, I'm gonna need all the luck I can get.

Hi! Just a warning! Kaplan's guarantee is only for first-time test takers!

I took the NCLEX right after graduation, without any studying, and failed. I then took the Kaplan Review Course and failed yet again. I wasn't given any type of refund because it wasn't my first time testing! Their testing strategies help, but they are simply not enough! I personally needed more content review. I suggest using Saunder's Comprehensive Review Book and maybe checking out a Kaplan book for their hints and tips.

I am doing kaplan, and because I know that I tend to forget content, I read the book that comes with the course as well as content videos available online.

I also bought the kaplan book you buy at the store.

It is true that you can't use all the tips, but they are helpful on some questions.

Based on a few friends that have taken their exams, it comes down to if you know your material VERY well.

so that is what I am doing, reading and questions, reading and questions...
