I think the idea is that if it pertains to foreign nurses working in the US then we should technically post on the International forum but I think the trouble is that there are things that are unique to UK nurses - your friend the hours being the most obvious!

Don't know what the mods think about this - I know Suzanne keeps asking us to post in the international forum for what should be international to USA issues & some posts have been moved but it can be a grey area - so let's wait & see what they say.......

Oh & isn't everyone wanting to escape then??? JOKE!!!! Please don't get angry with me!!

to add to the inane response that just fell out of my head above, maybe it would be a good idea to have an individual one, as i think much of the things we have to do from the uk is unusual

I do feel a lot of the issues that UK nurses need answered are unique to UK nurses. I do feel that the Filo's for example settle much quicker and easier than the UK nurses.

What you have to remember is life here is not necessarily better than the UK it is just different, where for some of the nurses from other countries it is a vast improvement. For some UK nurses there is a feeling that there are things we do better and there are things we do worse. The money is better but will not make a great difference to you.

As most of you know I have had a hard year here in the US but I have settled down and do feel part of life, I laugh now when people dont understand me. I have been accepted but that takes time and it is lonely until you get here.

ALthough I enjoy reading the post about the US I have no intention of moving away from the UK now or ever. Love my job, love my house, live near to my family and friends and couldn't bear to be anywhere else. There are things on this section that are relevant to UK nurses just not as often. It is interesting to see how those who move have adapted and enjoy reading all of the posts.

I agree with Kay's comments...........

The money is better but not by that much when you take into account the taxes etc here, but it is better. I also love it when people dont understand me and you see a vacant expression on their face!!! LOL One of our Surgeon's who is english went up to the nurse I was giving report to this morning and asked if she knew about Ken Dodd and the Diddy Men...you shouldve seen her face - she was smiling initially then the balnk look came accross - bless her - she had no clue....it was nice to share a bit of english with another english person!

Nursing is different here and as Kay said we do better at some things and not at others - I think for the most part - most of the UK nurses find the difficulties with inserting IV's and listening to lung and heart sounds. Both of those I can still struggle with at times.:uhoh21:
