I just got my acemapp email with details about my clinical assignment. I will be working at a very well respected hospital in my area, and on the nephrology unit. Im so excited! Ill be caring for patients who have just had kidney surgery. I dont actually start my rotations until Feb. But I want to be the absolute best I can be.
What should I do to prepare?

You should make sure you have your assessment and med dosage calculation on point. Don't be afraid to ask your nurses for help.
Thank you! I will pay close attention to these things and practice regularly. Anything else?

If they just had kidney surgery, I'm sure everyone will be on strict I&O's. Make sure these are equal! Also, keep a close eye on BUN and Creatinine/Creatinine Clearance labs. These are indicators of renal function.

Nurses have no control over whether I&O are equal. They seldom are.
The goal is to get them as equal as possible. I am well aware that nurses have no control over whether they are equal or not, but all the renal floors I've worked on have a target range of what they need to be before d/c. Thanks though.
