Like Hellllllo Nurse I sign letters to elected officials with RN.

I add all the letters with hospital management. They seem to like to see a lot of letters after a name. RN says it all to me though.

Do not shop in uniform.

Where did you come up with me wearing a uniform to the store??? And what is so wrong with stopping at the grocery store at 730am, it is much nicer then. By the way, I do wash my hands after taking care of patients. Do you? Also, I change into surgical scrubs when I go to work.

Sheesh, i get slammed for being honest about my shopping habits, wow never thought it would come to this.

I have only ever done it mistakenly. You get into such a habit that I have to consciously think about NOT writing it!

I see people in scrubs out shopping all the time and don't think a thing.

Of course you might look tacky, but that implies you look and feel tacky in your uniform while you work.

As for me, if I have errands to run before and after work, I'm not going to be ashamed of how I look. I'm going shopping proudly in my scrubs rather than worry that people are going "YUK!! A nurse in the grocery store AFTER work! He's probably been playing in poop all night long and look at him, he has the nerve to be in public!". Damn what they think, I'm living my life.

Come to think of it my extra pair of worn out scrubs are my favorite lounging/sleeping pjs, better than sweats in my opinion.

Wonder what people will think of now, sleeping in my scrubs:chair:

I saw a coworker come in the other morning as I was leaving. I said "oh, you must have worked extra last night somewhere on another floor". He said no "I just crawled out of bed and realized I haven't tunred in my time sheet. These are my pj's. I sleep in scrubs" :chuckle

If I feel too dirty to wear scrubs in public, then I would feel too dirty to go into patients rooms. That's just me. :)

Actually, I try NOT to let people know that I am a Nurse too often, because to be real honest I have found that as soon as people know you are a nurse, they often start talking about their health problems and ailments......and, outside of work, I want to be seen as just a person-and not a Nurse!:)

However, I would use it to write an official letter as others have stated when it is applicable.

I don't sign RN unless it is a mistake. But after reading this thread, it seems silly that I hide my profession. I am darn proud of being a nurse. It was a long and hard road to earn th RN. Like another poster said, doctors do it all the time. I just might start signing RN after my name and see what happens.

I don't wear scrubs, but if I did, you would see me in them all the time. I am lucky on most days to get a chance to go to the bathroom, much less change my clothes after I get home from work. My second job starts the second my first job ends - taxing my children around!

I think I'll start putting RN after my name afterall, I am proud of it.

And on the scrubs thing......I do where my scrubs if I go somewhere right before or after work. But I'm usually too tired to go any where after, and the grocery store is NOT fun at 8 pm! :). I do have one confession however, If I have no clean clothes, or I'm having a "fat day" and nothing else fits, I will put on a pair of clean scrubs to go run a quick errand or two. Nobody needs to know I'm not going to or from work. And it actually makes me feel more professional. People look at ya differently, and talk to you differently. So oh well. :)

Ohh, scrubs on a "fat day" are perfect, especially the tie ones, like I have. Absolutely great to goto a movie in and pig out on popcorn. And great for pregnancy too!!!

There have been many a night where I roll out of bed in my scrubs and run out really fast, in fact I just went to the post office this morning in them...ahhh comfort!!!!!

And maby I should start signing RN behind my name too...we could really start a movement here!!!

After all people do look at you differently once they know you are a NURSE, and they should, because we are the ones who care for them and their family 24-7, not just during office hours (no offence to the office RNs on this screen, just mean it as a whole). Heck I know of alot of RNs who got out of a speeding ticket or two, including myself, just becuase of those very letters that we sign behind our names.

I've actually gotten TWO speeding tickets in my scrubs after work No luck on that front, oh well.
